During the last two decades, mid-May U.S. winter wheat conditions have been lower only oncein 1996. That year,
drought-affected wheat recovered slightly due to late-May and J une rainfall (see above). Current wheat conditions
are slightly worse than those observed in mid-May 2002, 2006, 2011, and 2013.
The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin (ISSN 0043-1974) is
jointly prepared by the U.S. Department of Commerce, National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA). Publication began in 1872
as the Weekly Weather Chronicle. It is issued under general
authority of the Act of J anuary 12, 1895 (44-USC 213), 53rd
Congress, 3rd Session. The contents may be redistributed
freely with proper credit.
