Job Description
CommunityGrows Advisory Board Member is LinkedIn for Good Volunteering
We are seeking a few dedicated Advisory Board members who are:
Passionate for the success of CommunityGrows and the work it does in San Francisco to
cultivate healthy youth through growing gardens in low-income communities.
Skilled or have experience in one or more of the following areas: non-profit
management, fundraising, event planning, strategic planning, governance,
membership/volunteer management, health care/nutrition, research/evaluation,
business development, public relations/marketing, communication/social media,
graphic design, website management (WordPress), information technology, human
resources, finance/accounting and non-profit law.
Willing to guide CommunityGrows through growth, development, and transition
Willing to develop a knowledge of nonprofit board governance and nonprofit
management
Able to support fundraising efforts of CommunityGrows, through financial contributions
and by obtaining case and/or in-kind contributions from other sources
Willing to provide professional services as an in-kind contribution or volunteer time for a
specific purpose
Willing to monitor and observe CommunityGrows programs and services
Help enhance CommunityGrows public image through outreach to media, relevant
community stakeholders, and through personal networks
Able to commit to attending 10-12 advisory board meetings each year (one being a half-
day retreat)
Attend at least one CommunityGrows event/program in a year
Two year term with possibility of a two-year extension
Able to make a personal financial commitment to CommunityGrows
Excited about serving as CommunityGrows ambassadors to the broader community
As a fiscally sponsored project of the Tides Center, CommunityGrows (CG) Advisory
Board's role is the fiduciary for CommunityGrows donors and the community, and
caretaker of CG's mission. The CG Advisory Board members assists in the development of
CG mission and programs, strategic planning, approval of annual budget, financial
sustainability, fundraising, support of CG's Executive Director in fulfilling CG's goals, and
always evaluates and sometimes "hires" the Exeuctive Director.
