Little Sisters of the Poor is an international Roman Catholic non.*rofit 5%"/c0/&0
or+ani,ation dedicated to serin+ the elderl! *oor- 1t o*erates in oer &% countries around the
(orld and one of those facilities is located in the Lincoln Par2 nei+h)orhood of Chica+o3 1llinois-
After federal )ud+et cuts the or+ani,ation (ill )e losin+ a**roximatel! 4"-5 million annuall! that
(as allotted to them throu+h them Medicaid *ro+ram- 6his amount is half of their o*eratin+
)ud+et7 the other half is o)tained throu+h *riate donations- 6he Little Sisters of the Poor8s
current method for o)tainin+ donations is solicitin+ communit! mem)ers throu+h door.to.door
)e++in+- 6he or+ani,ation also faces a +eneral lac2 of a(areness7 een in the communit!

ie(s on communit!3 olunteerism3 *oert!3 and Little sisters of the Poor- 6he *ur*ose of these
interie(s is to do discoer (hat motiates *eo*le to olunteer and donate (ithin their
communit!- All interie(s (ere one.on.on3 too2 a *lace in different locations and lasted a)out
half an hour- All interie(s (ere recorded and then transcri)ed-
Results
Seeral main themes (ere discoered after anal!,in+ all of the +rou*8s interie(s-
?er!one interie(ed (ould li2e to olunteer (ith children /also some (ith animals0- <o one
(as interested in olunteerin+ (ith the elderl!-
?er!one ac2no(led+ed that the Little Sisters of the Poor (ere attem*tin+ to accom*lish an
im*ortant mission )ut the interie(ees (ould rather assist other causes that the! had more of a
connection (ith- 6he main ta2e a(a! *eo*le +et from olunteer@donatin+ is that the! feel +ood
a)out themseles- Peo*le *refer olunteerin+ oer donatin+ )ecause this allo(s them to see an

research- 6he first is that currentl! LSEP is sufferin+ from an extreme lac2 of a(areness3 onl!
"$F of sure!ed Chica+o residents hae heard of the or+ani,ation- Also it (as discoered that
*eo*le *ut a hi+h im*ortance on ta2in+ care of the elderl! in the communit!- 1f +ien the choice
