Installation and Maintenance

1.1 Equipment Required The tools that required are as follows: Anti-static Wrist-Strap T10/Cross head Screwdriver Small Flat Bladed Screwdriver (3mm Power Cable removal) Flat/Cross Head Screwdriver (for chassis removal) Fibre Cleaning Kit (comprising Patch Cord cleaning kit and a tool for cleaning the LC Interfaces of both the 8660 SFPs and the patch panel ports) Spare fibre end caps Laptop with serial communication software (SecureCRT, HyperTerminal, putty & etc) with port setting bit per second: 38400, data bits: 8, parity: none, stop bits: 1, and flow control: none Console Cable with 8660 adapter or (USB to Serial Converter)

1.2 Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Static electricity may damage the electronic cards or components causing or unravelled failures which may activate with a delay. Observe the following guidelines: Always wear an ESD-preventive wrist or ankle strap when handling electronic components. Connect one end of the strap to an ESD jack or an unpainted metal component on the rack or subrack. Handle cards by the faceplates and edges only; avoid touching the printed circuit board and connector pins. Place any remove component on an antistatic surface or in an antistatic shielding bag. Avoid contact between the cards and dothing. The wrist strap only protects the cards from electrostatic voltages on the body. Electrostatic voltages on clothing can still cause damage

2. Work Sequence
2.1 System Data Freeze
A system data freeze on the node should be in place prior to any work commencing.

2.2 System Snapshot Before any work is to commence of the 8660 node a snapshot configuration is to be taken via the NMS and stored on the database. If possible this should be emailed to the onsite engineer. # snapshot-config create flash: xxxxddmmyy.zip (where xxxx is site code and ddmmyy is date) Example # snapshot-config create flash: bsdr080713.zip

3. System Pre Checks

The following Pre Check show commands also need to be executed and the outputs should be stored. The system is also to be checked against the Tellabs 8000 FMS and all alarms are to be accounted for and noted. show show show show show show show show show show show show show show show show hw-inventory | incl slot sw-version | incl OK hw-inventory details ip interface brief fault active node-timing clock detail rsvp session rsvp session down rsvp session down detail environment fans environment powers debugging sw os-log slot <1/14> debugging sw dptd backplane-link-status slot <1/14> environment temperatures slot <1/14> environment voltages slot <1/14>

Before starting the operation, make sure that the CDC that you want to extract is switch off at PDU (Power Distribution Unit) and Serial Communication Program (HyperTerminal, Putty, SecureCRT & etc) running and session automatic save the log file.

4. Removing Controller and DC Power Card (CDC)

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Firstly take note of the allocated ports and cables designated for each port. Unscrew and remove the DC Power cables from both CDCs. Stow cables to avoid damage Remove the clock signal cable from the SCI ports and stow sync cables if connected.

CDC Sync SCI ports Step 4 Loosen the fastening screws located at the top/left and bottom/right of the CDC front panel. The type of the screw can be Torx TX10 or Pozi Drive PZ2.

Step 5

Remove the CDC card by raising the upper/left and lower/right ejector handles simultaneously. Carefully slide the CDC out of the sub rack. Place the remove CDC on an antistatic surface or in an antistatic bag. Place removed CDCs away from work area to avoid accidental damage.

Step 6 Step 7 Step 8

5. Inserting Controller and DC Power Card (CDC)

Step 1 Step 2 Insert the CDC into the shelf. Turn the blue latches placed on the top and bottom of the card inbound to fix the card.

Step 3

Use Torx TX10 or Pozi Drive PZ2 screwdriver to fasten the card screws. Use an approximate torque of 0.5 Nm for tightening. Insert the clock signal cable to the SCI port. Insert the DC power cable to the CDC and fasten the screw tightly.

Step 4 Step 5

Step 6

Tighten the captive screws on the top/left and bottom/right of the card by using a size 10 Torx/Crosshead screwdriver. First tighten both of the screws lightly and after that make the final tightening. Assemble the blank faceplates to the empty line card slots. The EMC gasket must always be on the left/upper side of the blank faceplate.

Step 7

Important:
It is of utmost importance that the IFCs and CDCs are soundly pressed to their places and their captive Screws are tightened. Failing to do so will cause a network element malfunction.

It will take some minutes to synchronize the NE configuration with the active CDC. This actively is indicated by the blinking CDC status/RMT alarm LED. The NE will be consistent when the LED is stable.

6. System Post Checks

The following Post Check Show commands also need to be executed and the outputs should be stored. show show show show show show show show show show show show show show show show hw-inventory | incl slot sw-version | incl OK hw-inventory details ip interface brief fault active node-timing clock detail rsvp session rsvp session down rsvp session down detail environment fans environment powers debugging sw os-log slot <1/14> debugging sw dptd backplane-link-status slot <1/14> environment temperatures slot <1/14> environment voltages slot <1/14>

Results from the Post Checks is to be compared to the Pre Checks to ensure system has booted correctly. The system is also to be checked against the Tellabs 8000 FMS and all alarms are to be accounted for.
