Bucharest climate

The climate of Romania is continental temperate , marked by some climatic influences oceanic continental Scandinavian-Baltic, Mediterranean and Black Sea. Thus, Banat and Oltenia is felt hue Mediterranean, characterized by mild winters and rainfall richer (especially fall). In Dobrogea manifests Pontic hue with heavy rare but rain. The weather in Bucharest is generally characterized by a continental climate, that means hot, dry summers and very cold winters. Due to altitude and geographical position, in downtown, in the winter time, can be very strong winds, even if sometimes the buildings can alleviate the winds speed. Winter temperatures are often below 0 C, even though they rarely drop below -10 C. In summer, the average temperature for July and August is 23 C, although temperatures in recent years have exceeded 40 C at midday. The precipitation media and humidity during summer is low, but occasionally violent storms. In summer and autumn, temperatures vary between 18-22 C, and precipitation during this time tends to increase, as more frequent yet milder periods of rain. Bucharest climate is temperate continental with an average annual temperature of 10-11 C, western and southern influences explain this autumns are long and hot, some mild winter days or to early spring. The climate is moderately continental shows some differences in air temperature, specific cities, caused by overheating of the street, burning of fuel, radiation exerted by the walls of buildings, etc.. Generally winters are cold with heavy snow, often accompanied by blizzards.

Lowest monthly average temperature is recorded in January, with an average of -3 C. Summer is very hot, average temperature in July is 23 C, sometimes even reach 35-40 C. On fundal of climate variation , specific to the region, we can speak of a number of local thermal changes generated by the structure and functioning of the city, pointing out some differences between specific climate and the land built its outer zone. A first remark in this sense refers to the diurnal thermal oscillations: in the morning, the lowest hourly average temperatures appear to Filaret out an hour later than in Baneasa.(Filaret and Baneasa are the most important meteo stations in Bucharest).

Winds In general the city and its surrounding areas surrounded by forests has a normal circulation of air masses, particularly maintaining an atmosphere favorable relatively stable. The dominant winds are felt in all seasons, are the east (21.2%), followed by the West (16.3%), Northeast (14.2%) and Southwest (11.2%) . Frequency atmospheric calm is 18.9%. With regard to their speed, the highest annual average they register northeast winds (2.4 m / s), followed by the East and West (2.3 m / s). Number of days with strong winds (above 16 m / s) is approximately 14 per year. As in the case of the temperature, wind analysis reveals the same differences between the built and its outer perimeter. Role of the barrier it makes city buildings meet calm situations to have a frequency of two times higher than the peripheral area.

Precipitations: The rainfalls are lower, at an average of 585 mm per year, but they have a great higher flow during summer: the highest medium quantities of rainfalls per month occur on June (almost 85 mm), and the lowest occur on March (15 mm). As an average, within Bucharest, it rains 117 days per year. The differences of relief, nature and the particularities printed by the buildings to the land surface led to the following 3 types of microclimates: the microclimate of the central city area, which is under the direct influence of urban constructions density, where temperatures are higher and where atmospherically peace and clouds have a greater frequency; the microclimate of industrial areas, where the mists and rainfalls similar to downpours appear more frequently because of impurities in the air; the microclimate of marginal residential areas, which is similar to the external natural microclimates of the city, being characterized by stronger winds and lower temperatures.
