Stemmed from the Greek Culture Initiative (GCI), but expanded our scope to outside of only gender and Greek issues Student-run organization hoping to become a research committee within Duke Student Government
Our Goals
To investigate and bring awareness to the current state of social and gender relations at Duke To counter cultural myths and bring attention to the silent majority To create a longitudinal tool for assessing campus culture
Methodology
Expanded GCIs past research Random sample of 2,601 undergraduates in Spring 2014, 24% response rate Used STATA, p<0.05
Findings
Confidence & Respect Identity Intimate Relationships Alcohol Gender Violence
Women are more confident seeking help from campus resources such as the Womens Center, CAPS, Career Services, and the Writing Studio and tutors. (not significant by any other characteristics)
Males and non-athletes are more confident securing the jobs of their choice than females and athletes.

Identity
Greeks are least likely to identify with their organizations reputation. Greek women are less likely than Greek men to identify with the reputation of their organization.
Intimate Relationships
39% of students reported being in a committed relationship. 76% of students reported wanting to. Greeks, more than Independents and SLG members, to want to be in a committed romantic relationship.
Intimate Relationships
75% of students hook up 1 or fewer times per month outside of a committed relationship. 67% of Students never perform sexual acts outside of a committed relationship (not significant by gender)
Alcohol Use

Overall: 20% of students never consume alcohol. Of those who drink, Will have five or more drinks in a typical day of drinking 57% of men 34% of women Drink two or more times a week: 34% of men 26% of women

Athletes and First- Years drink less frequently, and more heavily. Greeks have high numbers in drinking frequency and amount.

Largest At-Risk Groups: First-years within the Greek community: 13% zone 3, 8% zone 4 Seniors amongst Athletes: 25% zone 3, 8% zone 4. Compare this across all Duke students: 8% of men, 5% of women are in zone 3 or 4.
Gender Violence
A significantly higher proportion of SLG women report unwanted touching or attempted touching. Reporting of unwanted touching increases with class year.

10% of women, 3% of men, reported experiencing sexual assault. 4% of women, 1% of men, reported gender based stalking. A one unit increase in the victim s AUDIT score is associated with a 1.2 times higher odds of being assaulted.

Reporting Sexual Assault 25% of victims dont know their assailants, 27% were acquaintances, 23% were friends, and 18% were romantic partners
