CHAPTER -1

NEYIS FIRST BIRTH DAY

A Sailor accompanied by his family, friends and a host of passengers were on board a ship. They were heading for a holiday Island resort, off the cost of an ancient land. It was a pleasure trip. The sailor and his family were out to celebrate their only daughters first birthday which was on 26th November. The family of three Sailor, his lady wife and their child named Neyi were in great spirit as others on board. It was 19th November 2003, exactly one week before Neyis birthday, the ship set sailed into the majestic Pacific Ocean for the Island. The sky was clear. A gentle breeze blew across the calm sea. While Neyis daddy steered the ship, her mom was her constant companion. Her toothless smile with giggling laughers rented into the main cabin. Her sparkling eyes were always occupied on something or other or someone. Her constant reflexive movements and enthusiastic nature drew the attention of all. Soon she became the mascot of the ship. During breaks, her daddy used to take her to the deck, for her to enjoy open sky and fresh air. Occasionally, one or two dolphins would leap out of the water, almost about 10 to 15 feet high up into the air. The sight of these dolphins would give her much pleasure .She would intend to dive, to be with them. In the evening at the dinner time, there used to be a great show of music and drama enacted by the theatre on board. It was a magnificent atmosphere, where every members were very happy till the mid-night of 25th November 2003, when a mysterious disturbance under the sea casted a furry of havoc. A terribly swift storm whirled around the ship tossing everyone in the ship hither and thither. The music and laughter turned into yelling and everyone was gripped with panic. Neyis daddy, tried his best to steer the ship to safety but in vain. Life jackets were picked up and all prepared to be at the mercy of the furious waves .But the situation became worst. All hell broke loose as a series of giant waves with all their force slapped the ship time and

again. The ship slowly began to sink. Neyis mom was a wise lady and courageous too. Even in the face of grave danger, she kept calm and was planning hard to save her child. Her husband was still struggling to steer out the ship from the deadly whirlpool. She planned to lay down the baby with a breathing apparatus on a large floating tube and dive with her into the angry sea to the safety rather than do nothing. As she was almost done with her plan, a fairy gently picked up the infant child. The fairy told Neyis mom not to worry but to follow her by catching hold of her long flowing robe. The mother insisted her husband to intervene but alas! Just at that moment the ship wrecked. There was no traces of anyone. Only the merciless waves roared and splashed at each other. After a harrowing struggle of several hours, the fairy, the mother and her child were on the shore of an enchanted island. They reached the island just before the dawn. They were exhausted. The mother took a sigh of relief. The relief was largely due to the fact that her child was safe and sound. The fairy who braved the turmoil and helped to save the duo was a very kind one like most fairies. She consoled the mother and told her that both of them were safe in this island of fairies and that they would love to share the bounties of nature present in it. The fairy took them to one of their dwelling places for the mother and daughter to stay. She asked her to be comfortable and fear nothing. It was indeed a cosy large and strong castle. The design was magnificent and the interior was furnished well with most accessories not only for grownups but also for little ones as well as for other creatures of the island. Though Neyis mom was heartbroken, yet she was wonderstruck with the hospitality and at the grandeur of the castle. As she was preparing to take a little rest along with her child after the gruelling incident, two elves greeted them with utmost submissiveness and requested them to have some breakfast. The breakfast was laid down on the table in the dining room. It consisted of a variety of fruits, juice, milk, honey and highly nutritious pudding made out of local wild grains. The fairy joined the guest for the breakfast. At the breakfast table a wide range of conversation took place between them. When the fairy discovered that Neyis first birthday celebration was the reason for the voyage she was overjoyed. But it was a mixed feeling for the mother as she had both joy for her daughters birthday and anguish for the missing husband. The fairy understood the situation. Had words of encouragement and to make the burden lighter, she played light soothing music to the delight of both daughter and mother. The light breakfast and the soft music helped the mother and the daughter to relax their nerves. Soon they were fast asleep. When they got up there was a big pleasant surprise stored for them. It was good 7 hours of sound sleep that made them recover from the nerve breaking journey. They regain their health and looked much more cheerful. It also gave sometime for the fairy and her associates to plan and carry out the first birthday celebration plan exactly at 4 pm afternoon that day. The entire castle and its surroundings were decorated with all sorts of lightings and flowers. The flowers were of special kind. Though they could not speak

but could whisper, turn their faces and smile brilliantly. They were of various shapes, sizes, and colours and emitted fragrance of heavenly odour. A flock of birds of paradise, cuckoos, robins, doves and nightingales were seen perching and chirping in the garden of the castle. A herd of swan, rabbits, fawns, baby bears walked gracefully into the castle lead by a colourfully dressed clown. Meanwhile a troop of elves were busy arranging things all over the castle. The elves dames were giving finishing touches to the arrangements in the ball room. The fairy along with her two associates appeared into the room where the mother and the daughter were living. They brought a large collection of dresses and other necessities along with them for the baby and her mom. The fairy announced that Neyis birthday cake had just been baked. It was time to get ready for the celebration. An impulse of joy appeared on the mothers face. She got up to express her gratitude but the good fairy cut short the conversation saying she would love to dress up the baby and ask her associates to open up the Packets. She asked the mother to choose the most befitting dress for her daughter. All the dresses were equally beautiful and would go well with Neyi. However, the mother, with heart full of gratitude said that it would give her great pleasure if only the fairy herself choose one. The fairy felt honoured and chose a snow white dress with folds and amazing patterns. So, Neyi was dressed in all white-including the ribbons on the head. Her wristlets were of sparkling gems that glitter all across the room as she moved her hands restlessly. Neyi was seated on a bed of tulips in a baby trolley. Everybody was happy. Neyi in her birthday dress was looking herself as a little fairy. Her sight made everyone forget all worries even her mother forgot all about her home and tragedy for a while. Lets proceed to the ballroom, said the fairy. She herself led the baby to the room, followed by Neyis mom and the rest. In the ballroom there lay in wait all the invites seated amidst the colourfully decorated chamber. It was indeed a large room with lots of fresh air, lots of flowers, ribbons, balloons and all it takes to make an infant baby happy. There was a neat piano in one corner of the room facing the audience. The list of invites included flowers, birds, meek animals and all friaries. The chief guest was an Angel. Neyis eyes fell upon the angels bright face and it seems that they knew each other since ages. Neyis smiled infectiously and jostled to reach the angel. The angel reciprocated Neyis gesture by flapping her wings gently. As she did this a sweet aroma filled the air of the room. The angel walked up to the baby and took her unto her arms and hugged her. Everyone was filled with tender love for the child. The birthday cake was uncovered. The candle which was brought by the angel herself from her native place was lighted. With due permission from Neyis mom, the celebration begun as the candlelight was blown off by the trio-the mother, the Fairy and the Angel. The Angel herself assisted Neyi in cutting the cake while other guest burst into the chorus of HAPPY BIRTHDAY. She blessed Neyi and handed the baby to her loving mother. The heavenly being then

expressed her honour for being able to grace Neyis first birthday by singing a sweet song, which sounded something like-

A NICE SOUL
O Neyi, youre a nice Soul 2x

Baby youre an angel of course You are a blessing to all! Your birthday brings us joy 2x Like when you get you loving toy Baby youre an angel of course You are a blessing to all! May you live to be hundred. 2x With health, happiness & lots of success Baby youre an angel of course You are a blessing to all! Your nature is so sweet 2x We havent seen anywhere like this Baby youre an angel of course You are a blessing to all! 2x

As the Angel sung to the intense pleasure of all, Neyi seems to have appreciated all that was going on with her ceaseless smile similar to that of a most beautiful baby princess. The other guest present liked the atmosphere so much so that they were taken over blissfully by the show. At the end of the song, fairies, flowers, birds, lambs and other tender creatures presented gifts to the baby. More than the gift, their vows were touching. The fairies vowed to share their secrets. The flowers their tenderness. The lamb their meekness. The little bear their playfulness. The birds their songs. At last the Angel took her turn and gifted Neyi a baby doll. It was her first doll. The doll was a special

one which could communicate to her in her infant language. It had rosy cheek like Neyi and blue eyes too. Her hairs were brown unlike Neyi who had a thick lock of silky jet black hairs. Her eye had long eye lashes like her little mistress. Like her little mistress she had a very cute look. The doll had a very expressive face that would impress any child at any state of emotion. Neyies mom was moved to see the scale of love and affection showered on her child. She only wished if Neyis daddy could have been there to see for himself the kind of joy at their daughter has brought. She rose up with tears of joy and thanked them for all their kind words and deeds. The show got over but not before a ball dance. Everyone danced to cheer up the mother and the daughter. There after everybody joined for a dinner of fairys delicacy consisting fruitcakes, milk, honey and manna. When the party came to an end, everybody took leave of Neyi and her mom with much contentment. The angel notwithstanding the funfair and apparently all happy Neyis mom, the Angel understood her distress. The Angel assured her of help any time she needed it. She also advised her to take good care of Neyi and not to worry much, for the good God is kind to all. She bade Neyi goodbye with a kiss on her little forehead, blessed the baby to be a great woman of all time. The Angel spread her wings and ascended to the sky. Neyi kept gazing at her till the Angel disappeared among the twinkling stars.
