Objective:
The ninth grade interdisciplinary creative writing and research project will help you understand two types of writing; creative writing and the academic research paper. Essential Questions:

What can we learn about a time period through the creative writing process? How can a story be made out of factual information? What does it take to do accurate research on a person in history? What is a thesis and how is a research paper different from an essay or creative writing?

Research Requirements: (January)


In order for your narrative to be historically accurate, research is expected. Research with Ms. Moren and Ms. Jerome begins on a historical figure, chosen in consultation with Ms. Sabino. Research will include biographical information, cultural context and geographical setting. This is to be used to help you in creating your historical narrative.
[Participation is required while researching in the library. Attention will be paid to your work ethic during your library time.] A note taking template or note cards will be required. A minimum of 3 approved sources will be required. An MLA bibliography of all sources must be turned in by deadline.

Narrative Requirements: (January-February)


Keep track of your questions and ideas that arise. Create an organizer for the narrative. This could be a timeline, outline, storyboard, web

organizer or some other format. Create a narrative Produce, revise and edit your rough draft. Publish a final draft that has been carefully edited and includes a typed bibliography of all sources looked at, used or not.

Research Paper Requirements: (April)


Based on previous research on your person, you will develop and support a thesis in a 2-4 page research paper. You will develop your paper in the following steps draft of introductory paragraph that ends in a thesis - additional research will likely be necessary as you develop a thesis rough draft of title page, 2-4 page paper with in-text citations, Works Cited Page final draft (graded rough draft turned in with final) a significant portion of the final grade will reflect improvement

Presentation Requirements: (May)


Your presentation will relay the sense and core of your narrative and your thesis. Requirements: The presentation should include physical copies of the narrative and research paper. Your thesis statement. Your world map. Physical representation of your person which could include: o Impersonation o Videography o Artwork
