Fifth Sunday of Lent

What Do You Believe He Can Achieve?
Someone once said that those who say I can! and those who say, I cant! usually both turn out to be correct! There is an undeniable connection between what we believe and what we achieve. This is no less true than when it comes to faith in Jesus Christ. What HE can and will achieve in your life is directly in proportion to the degree to which you put faith in him. Maybe you have struggled to overcome vices, defeatist attitudes, and crippling beliefs that have consistently stifled your progress in the pursuit of holiness as a Christian and wholeness as a human being. You have tried to change, grow and learn to live a different and better life but too often feel you have failed miserably. Maybe you have! But you would do well to take a cue from Martha who in her grief first exclaimed: Lord, if only you have been here only to follow up with an expression of indomitable faith but even now I know! Yes, even now, she said, four days after her brothers death she stilled believed; was in fact certain that even now there was something that Jesus could do to restore her hope. What do you believe? Do you believe that Jesus Christ has an answer even for hopeless situations symbolized by a four-day old grave site? Do you believe God when he said to the prophet Ezekiel: I will open your graves and have you rise from them!?
Do you believe? is the question that Jesus asks Martha

This is the question that will be posed and repeated thousands of times at Easter Vigil celebrations all over the world as men and women and young people are welcomed into full communion with the Catholic Church. For some past and present, Jesus claims were unbelievable! Well, one of the goals of the Lenten season is to learn to not put so much stock in conventional wisdom of what is or is not believable or achievable. For once you align yourself with God, anything is possible yes, even now!

The Light is On For You

By experiencing Christs mercy in Confession, we are more able to show that mercy to others. The Sacrament of Confession is a means of restoring peace (Cardinal Donald Wuerl). Are you having difficulty forgiving a friend or a loved one? Have you considered seeking forgiveness first? Often times we find forgiving difficult because we dont ask for forgiveness. You cant give what you dont have. If you havent opened yourself to the gift of forgiveness that God wants to give you then you close yourself off to giving the gift to others. Its time to open your heart and let it go. Come and begin again with the Sacrament of Reconciliation!

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The Spring Anoinng of the Sick will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the 10:00am Mass. Registraon required. Sign-Up Sheets are at the Ushers Table in the back of the Church.
Jubilarian Mass for Married Couples

On Sunday, June 15, 2014, at 2:00 pm, Cardinal Donald Wuerl will celebrate the annual Mass for couples married 25, 30, 35, 40, 50, and 51+. Please call the parish office at 202-265-1470 to register. The deadline is April 18, 2014. Stations of the Cross Please join us for Stations of the Cross this Friday after 12:10 Mass and at 7:30 p.m. Our special intention this Friday will be for those suffering from addiction.
