In Dedication to the Children and Youth in the Village Even youths shall faint and be weary, and the selected young men shall feebly stumble and fall exhausted. But those who wait for the Lord--expect, look for and hope in Him--shall change and renew their strength and power; They shall lift their wings and mount up (close to God) as eagles (mount up to the sun), they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint or become tired. Isaiah 40: 30, 31

Tribute: Malissa B. Perkins (Fondly Known as Mom Zion)

The late Malissa B. Perkins, fondly known as Mom Zion, was given this name by her pastor because of her love and maternal commitment to helping neighborhood children. It was not unusual for children living in the inner city to come to her home for a meal, to participate in Bible study, or just to receive assistance with homework assignments. In spite of the challenges of being a single parent, Mom Zion encouraged neighborhood children to stay in school, pursue their goals and strive for Academic EXCELLENCE. To perpetuate Mom Zions philosophy, the Malissa B. Perkins Scholarship Foundation is designed to salute the Academic Excellence and spirit of children and youth who triumph over insurmountable odds through education, spirituality and or volunteerism. It is the intent of the scholarship committee to annually award deserving inner-city children and youth with encouragement and scholarships that afford them opportunity to stay in school, graduate and obtain a college degree. This years awards are dedicated to the children of the village our inner-city youth. Through their educational achievements and moral development, a brighter future is created for them. The Mom Zion Spirit Award is a special award given to young people who demonstrate love and motivation on a daily basis to all who come in contact with them.
