TUP Recognizes Outstanding TUPians BEARING THE THEME TUP @ 112: Ang Teknolohikal na Unibersidad ng mga Pilipino, the

Annual University Recognition gave awards and recognition to the outstanding students of TUP-Manila, both graduating and non-graduating, at the IRTC Conference Hall, March 24. The program started with an invocation led by the TUP Kalinangan Singers. It is followed by the Welcome Remarks from Dr. Olympio V. Caparas, OIC-University President, and the encouraging Inspirational Message delivered by Mrs. Corazon Imperial Madden, TUP alumnus of batch 1986. The awarding ceremony was divided into two parts. The first one is the giving of special awards in arts, engineering, science and technology, and sports led by the college deans and university officials. Likewise, citations for students who championed different competitions as well as ECE and ECT Board top placers were recognized. The board placers awarded in the ceremony were as follows: Engr. Kelvin Ray B. Soldevilla (Top 6 ME Board Exam, March 2013), Engr. Ma. Jonalyn M. Orilla (Top 7 CE Board Exam, November 2013), Engr. Mary Anne S. Roa (Top 7 ECE Board Exam, December 2013), Arvee R. Carandang, ECT (Top 6 April 2013 ECT Board Exam), and Augusto Christian A. Funelas, ECT (Top 3 December 2013 ECT Board Exam). Also, Outstanding Student Leader award was given to David Lloyd G. Henson for his excellent performance in terms of commitment, legacy, and leadership. The second part of the event is the awarding of the Outstanding Student Organization which is given to the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineer-TUP Student Unit (PSME-TSU). Afterwards, the conferring of Scholastic Award (SA) and Academic Honors (AH) was delivered. The SA is given to the student who has achieved the highest General Weighted Average (GWA) on both graduating and non-graduating students, while the AH is given to those who have a GWA higher than 1.75, both from Baccalaureate and Pre-Baccalaureate programs. Michael P. Quitorio (BT-IT) of CIT reaped the SA for being the only Magna Cum Laude in the batch with a GWA of 1.390. In addition, 51 Cum Laude students were recognized in the ceremony: 7 came from CAFA, 11 from CIE, 5 from CIT, 13 from CLA, 8 from COS, and 7 from COE. The Cum Laude students from COE were as follows: Aaron U. Aquino and Elvin Hayes V. Gentiles (BSEsE), and David Lloyd G. Henson, Trixie Marie T. Biaco, John Robert C. Son, John Louise D. Idolog and Ryan Jason E. Bragais (BSEE). Meanwhile, the pre-baccalaureate program had two graduating students with the highest honors and 35 students with honors. On the other hand, after the induction, Magna Cum Laude Quitorio gave a short heartwarming message to everyone and thanked his DOST family. The program ended with the Closing Remarks delivered by Dr. Dionisio A. Espression, Jr., Vice-President for Academic Affairs.
