Authentic without it). 249*: (Weak. The supplication is authentic in a different context) (see no. 1152). 259*. (Weak except for the first sentence Whoever attributes words to me which I did not say will take his seat in the Fire which is authentic).(asSaheehah:3100). 338*. (Weak except for the story of the first man, and the final sentence O `Aaishah) (see no. 1311) . 342*. (Weak with this wording. A shorter wording is authentic) (see no. 859). 476*. (Its chain is weak, however the saying Ubayy ibn Ka`b is the noble chief of the Muslims is established as a well-known saying of the Salaf.) 532*. (Weak with this full wording. It is however established that the Prophet paid a sick visit to Zayd ibn Arqam.) 604*. (Weak with this wording). 722*. (Weak. However the statement Thunder is an Angel entrusted with the clouds is established as a saying of the Prophet (as-Saheehah :1872). 781*. (Its chain is weak. However the sentence concerning rulers and governors is established as a saying of the Prophet (as-Saheehah:2620). 813*. (Weak except for So look for it in the last ten nights (of Ramadaan) (ad-Da`eefah: 6338). 814*. (The first sentence Name yourselves with the names of the Prophets is weak (al-Irwaa:1178), the rest has supporting witnesses which authenticate it). 916*. (Shaadhdh. The correctly preserved wording from Ibn `Umar and others is If there were a bad omen in anything then it would have been in a house, a woman, and a horse. (as-Saheehah:799, 993 & 1897). 922*. (Its chain is weak. The six duties mentioned are however authentic from a hadeeth of Aboo Hurairah, but not the phrase: if he neglects any of them, then he has neglected an obligatory duty owed to his brother.) 1015*. (Its chain of narration is weak; however the first and third sentences are authentic as statements of the Prophet . (as-Saheehah no. 518; and see no.1011). 1041*. (Its chain is weak. However the second and third sentences are authentic as statements of the Prophet . 1111*. (Shaadhdh with the wording at the beginning. It is authentic with the wording: Do not imitate the Jews and Christians with the greeting of Salaam,

and if you meet them upon a path then cause them to use its narrowest part .) (as-Saheehah: 704). 1135*. (Its chain is weak, however the warning to beware up to left helpless is authentic from the Prophet (as-Saheehah: 2752) . 1137*. (Its chain is weak, however the prohibitions of prostrating at that time is authentic from Ibn `Umar- reported by Ibn Abee Shaybah) (2/16). 1188*. (Weak with this wording, authentic with the wording: This is a manner of lying down which Allaah hates) . 1257*. (Munkar with the mention of the siwaak, it is authentic with circumcision instead of the siwaak) (see no. 1292) . * *Notes: (i) Hadeeth no. 451 should have cubits or forearms instead of spans. (ii) on page 179 bad luck should be translated as bad omen, (iii) likewise on p.256 horses can bring bad luck is a mistranslation, and an error.
