ENTHRONEMENT OF THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS IN THE HOMES

Holy Face of Jesus Center & Convent 1111 F.R. Hidalgo St. Quiapo 1001 Manila, Philippines Edition, March 22, 2014

Pope Francis invites us: Let the risen Jesus enter your life, welcome Him as a friend, with trust: he is life! And a very concrete way of heeding his call is through the Enthronement of the Holy Face of Jesus in our homes. Every home is not simply a house but an abode of the family where the seeds of faith are planted and where memories are kept. Enthronement has been a humble practice of Leo DuPont (17971876) a lay family man devoted to the Holy Face of Jesus in Tours, France. He kept an oil lamp burning continuously before an image of the Holy Face, and his home became a center of pilgrimage when people began to gather to pray before the image and many received miraculous cures through the application of his lamp's oil to their skin. He helped in propagating the devotion by establishing the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face. He was later recognized by the Church as a "Venerable and is also known as the "The Holy Man of Tours." In the midst of busy world, the home sometimes becomes a deserted place where everyone thirsts for love. But Pope Francis believes that the family and the workplace can also be a parched place where faith nonetheless has to be preserved and communicated. (Evanglii Gaudium #86) WHAT IS ENTHRONEMENT? Enthronement of His picture in our home is an act of faith in God as the Lord and Redeemer of our lives, an act of hope in Him who is the King of glory and an act of love to Him who reigns in our whole being. The enthronement is giving honor to Jesus by finding a special place in our homes where His Face is duly revered. "I firmly wish that my Face reflecting the intimate pains of my soul, the suffering and love of my heart, be more honored! Whoever gazes upon me already consoles me." (Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Pierina)

WHAT DO WE HOPE IN THE ENTHRONEMENT? Our devotion to Jesus in His Most Holy Face is best manifested by our desire to keep His Face imprinted in our hearts, our families and our homes. 1. We hope to develop a deeper intimacy with our Lord Jesus who is our constant companion. Our devotion to His Holy Face is an extension of our deep love for God as we receive Him in the Holy Eucharist. Faith transforms the whole person precisely to the extent that he or she becomes open to love. (Lumen Fidei, 22) 2. We hope to grow in love rooted in Christ through our relationships among the family members and our relationship with other people. This is possible as we commit our hearts to God as the essence of our being.

The first setting in which faith enlightens the human city is the family Promising love for ever is possible when we perceive a plan bigger than our own ideas and undertakings, a plan which sustains us and enables us to surrender our future entirely to the one we love. (Lumen Fidei No. 52) 3. We hope to be a home where love and faith is shared. A home where every person who lives in this home or passes by the home will have an opportunity to be see the radiance of God. Every time my Face is contemplated I will pour out my love into the heart of those persons, and by means of my Holy Face the salvation of many souls will be obtained. (Our Lord to Sister Maria Pierina) STEPS TO FOLLOW FOR THE ENTHRONEMENT 1. Have a full understanding of the value of enthronement in your home.

2. Make the day of enthronement a significant one by preparing yourself spiritually. If you are spearheading the event, you are encouraged to go to Mass and Confession on the said day. The Enthronement is a solemn renewal of our love to God. It is also Gods way to signify His love for your family. 3. Find a special place of enthronement for the Holy Face of Jesus. a. It is a place where everybody could see it. b. A place where family gathers together to pray. c. A place that is not an area of recreation or the like.. d. A place where the Holy Face can be venerated with love. Decide a particular day and time where the family could be present. In cases where there is already a picture of the Holy Face of Jesus in a particular home, they may just proceed with the prayers to formalize the enthronement. This means there is no longer a need to change the picture that is already in the home. 4. You dont need to choose a very significant date for the enthronement like birthdays or anniversaries. What matters is that, whatever date you choose will be significant because it will be start of a new/ renewed home with Jesus. 5. More important is that you invite your loved ones, friends and other families to witness the enthronement. As they join in prayers, they too may be inspired to dedicate their homes to the Holy Face of Jesus. 6. Prepare candles for everyone. You may also provide candle holders on the side of the picture of the Holy Face. 7. Make copies of prayers available to everyone. a. Prayer of Enthronement. b. Consecration of the Family to the Holy Face (daily prayer) 8. Please assign a member of the family to do the reading. 9. Serving food is not a necessary requirement for the enthronement. 4

NOTE: 1. Home is a place where the family lives or a home for different families. But it can also be a place where a group of people stay. Let us not limit it to families but homes/dormitories. It is also for couples just starting a family. 2. The prayer of enthronement need not be renewed every year as with other devotions. It is only done once. 3. For all who wish to translate the complete enthronement in other dialect are welcome but please submit it to the Holy Face Center for approval. ENTHRONEMENT OF THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS IN THE HOMES I. ENTRANCE SONG: ANG BANAL NA MUKHA All candles lighted for the processional starting from the entrance door of the house until the place of enthronement while everyone sings: Ang Banal na Mukha. II. LEADER: + Sign of the Cross. Let us unite our hearts in prayer as we offer our praises to the Holy Face of Jesus with the words of Venerable Leo DuPont O Adorable Face of my Jesus, so mercifully inclined toward us on the tree of the Cross on the day of Your Passion, offered for the salvation of mankind, as then, even now, mercifully incline toward us poor sinners; cast a glance of compassion upon us and embrace us in Your kiss of peace. Amen. III. SCRIPTURE READING ASSIGNED FAMILY MEMBER: Let us now listen to the Word of God and allow Him to speak to us. Our reading is taken from the letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians (2 Cor.4: 1- 18) 5

Pauls Apostolic Ministry Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart, but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every mans conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus sake. For God, who said, Light shall shine out of darkness, is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you. But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, I believed, therefore I spoke, we also believe, therefore we also speak, knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and will present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things 6

which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. THE WORD OF THE LORD. Response: Thanks be to God. (Reflection- If a Priest or a Sister of the Holy Face of Jesus is present.) IV. PRAYER OF ENTHRONEMENT LEADER: Heavenly Father, it is Your will that the Face of Your Son Jesus be glorified and the inspiration of Pope St. Pius X, expressed the desire for the Holy Face of Jesus to be venerated in the homes of all Christian families. Today by Your grace, we are here gathered to enthrone You. We hereby pray: ALL: O Jesus, Your Most Holy Face gives us the wonderful gift of sight; to see with the eyes of our souls the majestic Face of our Heavenly Father. We beseech You not to hide Your Face from us. O Jesus, Your Most Holy Face radiates to us Your endless mercy and unparalleled forgiveness in the midst of our sins and failures. We beseech You not to turn Your Face away from us. O Jesus, Your Most Holy Face illumines to us your warm embrace as You fill our hearts with Your love. We beseech You not to leave us even for a single moment. O Most Holy Face of Jesus, Your face shines on us the splendor of Your peace as You shower us with Your compassion and kindness. We beseech You never to depart from us. We humbly enthrone You, Lord Jesus in Your Most Holy Face. Come into our hearts, our families and our home. Reign in our lives and make it Your dwelling place.

In our darkest moments, be our light. In our most difficult times, be our stronghold and in the hours of our helplessness, be our inspiration. As we enthrone You Lord: enter our home and bless every member of this family to live our lives in conformity with Your will. Preserve our families with stronger relationships even in the midst of the most trying times. Allow this home to be a seedbed of faith and allow it to blossom as each day passes. We enthrone You Lord in our mind, in our heart, in our will and in our whole being. May Your Holy Face shine upon us and give us peace all the days of our life. And may the Blessed Mother accompany us and may the faithfulness of St. Joseph inspire us in our homes as we ask Jesus: Stay with us Lord. (Medals of the Holy Face of Jesus will be given to every member of the family.) MEMBER OF THE FAMILY: Dear Lord, with thanksgiving we receive the Medals of the Holy Face of Jesus which in the words of the Blessed Mother affirms that the medal is a weapon for defense, a shield for courage, a token of love and mercy and which her Divine Son wished to give the world in these troubled days of lust and hatred for God and His Church. May we be blessed, humbled and be worthy bearers of His Holy Face. Amen. LEADER: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be. CLOSING SONG: HOLY FACE SONG

PRIEST OR LEADER:

O most Holy Face of Jesus, we salute You and we honor You. We place ourselves in the radiance of You Face, in the bosom of Your heart and in the abyss of Your soul. How gracious are You O Jesus, for giving us all our needs: food to nourish our health, clothes to warm our bodies, roof to shelter our heads, and most of all a family to complete our existence. FATHERS: Lord, as I renew my marital commitment to the mother of my children, help me to be a faithful husband and a good father as I build for them an abode of love. We beseech you: Stay with us, Lord. MOTHERS: Lord, as I renew my marital commitment to the father of my children, grant that I may never cease to serve my husband and my children, for they are the treasures of my life. We beseech you: Stay with us, Lord. CHILDREN: Lord as we renew our commitment as children, we humbly appeal to You to mold us into the person You would want us to be, grateful to our parents and dedicated to Your holy will. We beseech you: Stay with us, Lord. FAMILY PRAYER: (all together) Dearest Lord, You know what it means to be a part of the family, for You lived among us, sharing even our joys and pains. Today our Lord, with Your blessing and guidance, we consecrate our family (name of the family) to Your Most Holy Face, to build it in the Image of Your Holy Family in Nazareth. Come into our family and be the Head of it. Make our house Your home. Bind us together with Your love, live among us and stay with us always. Amen. 9
