Picture Description Sentences (Ideas for Lesson Plan)

Teacher will begin class by presenting objective for class. Teacher will teach language expressions to students for lesson by way of useful words and phrases in regard to size, shape, color, etc. for use when describing pictures for in-class tasks. Students will work together (in pairs) and brainstorm concepts for designing pictures by talking with a partner and then by producing illustrations to represent ideas to be presented in class. Teacher will draw a 640 638 mm 3 by 3 grid on board (such as one used to play the game Sudoku) and explain to students that pictures from students presenting their pictures to the class will be drawn in the squares while those same students give step-by-step instructions to students sitting at tables about how to draw illustrations. Students sitting at tables will first listen to students giving presentation and try to draw description from each step-by-step command given as each presenter in the pair will give an oral description in turn. The step-by-step process that will be used to verbally dictate instructions to students sitting at tables will allow those students sitting at desks to follow directions easily and also enable them to ultimately compose a replica of the original masterpiece from the students giving presentation. Teacher will instruct students to use expressions that describe each part of the grid such as: Upper left corner (upper left-hand corner)/upper-left box (square) Upper right corner (upper right-hand corner)/upper-right box (square) Middle-center box (square) Middle-right square box (square) Middle-center square box (square) Lover right corner (lower right-hand corner)/lower-right box (square) Lower left corner (lower left-hand corner)/lower-left box (square) Next, teacher will concisely restate given instructions to all students again. Teacher will explain to students that two students working together as a pair will stand together in front of class and give instructions to other students sitting at tables to draw the same picture as they describe in their pictures with words, phrases, and sentences. All students at tables will be given paper to draw the picture being described by the pair of students standing in front of the class. All students at tables will listen and draw and try to create a picture of their own that is identical to the one that is being described by the two students presenting their drawings orally. The two students standing in front of the class as a pair will give an oral description of their picture to other students sitting at desks and will use visual clues in order for them to convey their drawing to classmates. The students who are giving presentation will draw their illustration step-by-step in one of the squares on the grid written on whiteboard while students sitting at desks will listen and respond by drawing pictures from instruction dictated to them. Teacher will group 20 students into pairs for a total of 10 pairs within each class. Both students in each pair will present their drawing to the class while describing visual elements in their designs that will include but not be limited to size, shape, color, etc.
