INTRODUCTORY REPORT

ON

COMBAT ROBOT

INTRODUCTION

In our day to day life robot has become a very user friendly
instrument. Many problems in our day to day life has been solved
by the means of robot. Robots have made our life more
convenient and restful.

Robot is an electromechanical device that can perform


multiple tasks. Basically there are many different types of which
works through remote control, RF signal, IR signal and even
through ultrasonic signals.

This project is self dependent robot which does not require


any remote operation or any RF signal for its operation. This
combat robot is a microcontroller based robotic project. The task
of this robot is to sense the fire in a particular room and
extinguish the fire with the help of a fan or extinguisher mounted
on it. It can also be programmed to perform multiple tasks. This
robot senses the change in normal room temperature and the
temperature at the place of fire by the help of fire sensor. After
sensing the abnormal temperature at the place of fire the
microcontroller activates the extinguisher system and
extinguishes the fire.

BLOCK DIAGRAM EXPLANATION

POWER SUPPLY : The power supply can be a fixed battery


12V or rectified transformer

output. All the circuits, drivers, motors, are powered by this power
supply. The maximum

output voltage will be 12V DC.

MICROCONTROLLER: Microcontroller is a digital device which


can be programmed for multitasking process. The microcontroller
used here is Atmel family of series AT89SXX

MOTORS: Two motors are used to displace the unit in forward/


reverse and left/right direction.

LCD DISPLAY : LCD display used here is 16X2 alphanumeric


display which will display the action performed by the unit.
EXTINGUISHER UNIT: Extinguisher unit can consists of a high
speed fan to blow off the fire or a water pump to sprinkle the
water on the fire or it can also carry a fire extinguisher unit.

TEMPERATURE SENSOR : Temperature sensor used here is


a variable resistor which changes its resistance with the change in
temperature.

PATH FINDER : Path finder consists of IR transmitter and


detector to any obstacle in the path of the unit. If any obstacle
comes under the path of the unit it will change the path and will
search for another path.

MOTOR DRIVER : Motor driver consists of relays and relay


driver which act as buffer between the microcontroller and the
motors
APPLICATION
• To extinguish the fire where human being cannot reach.
• Self operated instrument so can be used at coal mines of
under ground level where conventional extinguisher are not
available.

ADVANTAGES
• Low power consuming
• User friendly, no need to operate to detect and extinguish
the fire.
• Low cost.
• Can be used at night also

DISADVANTAGES
• Wear and tear can take place .
• Frequent maintenance is required.
