03-17-14 Seymour Police Department Accident Reconstruction specialists continue to investigate a serious accident which occurred Friday afternoon on West Street in the area known as Falls Hill. On Friday March 14, 2014 at approximately 2:30 P.M. multiple 911 calls were received at the Seymour Police Department with the callers reporting a serious motor vehicle accident on Falls Hill located on West Street. Police, Fire and Emergency Medical personnel were immediately dispatched and responded to the above location. Upon arrival police officers encountered a three vehicle head-on collision with severe damage to all vehicles and multiple injuries to operators and passengers in said vehicles. One operator was found to be trapped and had to be extricated by fire personnel. Preliminary investigation revealed a black Dodge Dakota pick-up truck operated by 50 year old Greg Barna of Beacon Falls was traveling East on West Street. For unknown reasons Barnas vehicle struck a cement retaining wall on the right side of the road, bounced off the wall and then crossed over the center line as it approached a curvature in the roadway and struck a white Dodge pick-up truck head on which was traveling West on West Street. The white pick-up truck was operated by 18 year old Adam Alvelo of Seymour. Alvelo tried to make an evasive maneuver and avoid being struck by Barnas vehicle but was unable to do so. Alvelos vehicle then got pushed backwards due to the impact, spun around, and was hit by a third vehicle operated by 26 year old Megan Federowicz who was operating a gray Audi SUV. Federowicz was traveling directly behind Alvelos vehicle at the time Alvelos vehicle was pushed backwards. Alvelos vehicle was then struck a second time by Barnas vehicle. Five people were injured in said accident. None of the injuries were considered to be life threatening. Barna sustained injuries and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was treated and released. Alvelo had to be extricated from his vehicle by Fire Department personnel and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. He was treated for a head laceration and later released. Federowicz and two passengers in her vehicle, 54 year old Kathleen Sciarrino of Oxford and Federowiczs eight (8) month old infant son were all taken to St. Vincents Hospital where they were evaluated, treated and later released.

This accident remains under investigation by Seymour Police Department Accident Reconstruction specialists. Criminal or Motor Vehicle charges may be applied upon completion of said accident investigation.
