2 to 5 psig (115 to 136 kPa) from the second stage shroud (bracket). The seal thereby provided prevents atmospheric air from entering the vacuum pump through the stuffing boxes.
Centrifugal force empties rotor sector, forcing liquid compressant toward body casing
Low pressure caused by receding of liquid compressant from rotor sector draws air through the inlet port
Liquid compressant and compressed air are discharged through cone discharge port

Section 2.3
AES-VCM MONG DUONG POWER COMPANY LIMITED Doosan Power Systems India
System Description
AES-VCM MONG DUONG POWER COMPANY LIMITED Doosan Power Systems India
Water Boxes The water boxes shall be constructed of steel complying with the requirements of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII or equivalent acceptable internationally recognized Standard. The water boxes shall be rubber lined or epoxy coated. Water box plates and welds shall be designed with a corrosion allowance of 1.5 mm on each wetted side. Water boxes and nozzles shall be rubber lined to protect against corrosive river water. Each water box shall be provided with eye bolts or lugs for lifting. Water box drains shall permit complete waterside draining in 15 minutes. Necessary supports shall be provided for people working inside the water box during such cleaning of debris that may pass through the Water Intake band screen and online debris filters and periodic inspection. Tube Cleaning System The sponge type ball cleaning system shall be provided for online cleaning of debris blocking condenser tube inlets and deposits inside the tubes. The system shall be complete with ball recirculation pumps, ball charging and collection piping, motor operated ball collection strainers, differential pressure indicating transmitter for ball strainer, local control panel, ball size measuring tray, ball counter, etc. In case of strainer jamming by debris, they can be opened by applying external torque with specially designed tool to be supplied by the vendor. The system can be operated locally and from the control room. The control panel shall be located at elevation above potential flooding by recalculating water or condensate drain. Evacuation System Each condenser shell shall be provided with an air-removal section designed to prevent any stagnant accumulation of air, non-condensable gases, and corrosive vapors. Air off-take piping from each air-removal section shall be located at the cold end of the cooling water circuit terminating outside the shell. The evacuation system shall include two 100%-capacity systems mounted on skids, including piping, valves, controllers, and other accessories. The system design shall allow operation of a single system to maintain vacuum during the normal operating condition. The evacuation system shall provide the capability to permit the turbine generator to accept full load within 30 minutes of startup. Provisions shall be incorporated in equipment design to prevent loss of vacuum by backflow of air from atmospheric pressure through the equipment into the condenser. Vacuum system suction and discharge piping shall be continuously sloped and be free from non-drainable pocketed areas.

A deaerator shall also be provided as a stage of feedwater heating. The deaerator shall be a tray/spray-type heater consisting of a heater and storage tank. The storage tank will be sized to supply feedwater to the feedwater pumps for more than 5 minutes at BMCR load operation with the tank at normal operating level. The deaerator shall be guaranteed to remove all dissolved oxygen in the feedwater in excess of 0.005 cc/liter (7 ppb) at all loads up to and including the maximum rated capacity, and during start-up and steam bypass operation. The deaerator shall be complete including, but not limited to, level control; vacuum breaker; gauge glass standpipe; two-gauge glass kits; pressure gauge; safety relief valve(s); two thermometers; high-, high-high, low-, and low-low level alarm switches; and overflow system. Design of the deaerator shall incorporate the following features: Heater and storage section and appurtenances shall conform to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Pressure Vessels, Division 1 and to all international and local safety requirements that may govern. Heater design shall provide for a minimum 1.6 mm corrosion allowance. All shells and heads shall be constructed of carbon steel plates conforming to ASME SA515, Grade 70, or ASME SA-516, Grade 70. Suitable means of access shall be provided for all internal parts. A suitable door shall be provided above the water level for removal of trays or for access to the heater section. The heater and storage section shall each have a davitted manway. Doors, manholes, handholes, and frames shall be the same material as the shell. Access openings shall be hinged or equipped with davit assembly and shall be provided with permanent-type gaskets. Tray system shall consist of completely interchangeable stainless steel trays. Tray supports, tray enclosure, and other internal parts coming in contact with noncondensable gases or non-deaerated water shall be constructed of or lined with stainless steel. The deaerating heater shall be provided with supports capable of supporting the entire weight of the unit (heater and storage section) with all spaces flooded. The minimum clearance between the bottom of the supports and the bottom of the storage tank shall be 228 mm. Each storage section water outlet shall be provided with a weir of sufficient height to prevent foreign objects or sludge from entering the pump suction piping.
