This concept can be demonstrated explicitly in both Paul Keatings national address Funeral service of the unknown Australian Soldier and Faith Bandlers motivational delivery Faith, Hope and Reconciliation. Both speeches aim to deliver their messages about justice, identity and unity. In effectively demonstrating their contemporary relevance and attending to the response of their audience both speakers were able to successfully convey their intended message. Delivered on a national occasion on Armistice Day 1993, Keating aimed to express his concerns for the Australian identity as well as the importance of unity in the country. He has successfully achieved this purpose by incorporating a range of literary and delivery techniques (rhetorical devices) such as repetition and dramatic pauses to link the past, present and the future. In referring to the successful past, Bandler was able to strengthen the present thus encouraging her audience to work for the future to the betterment of indigenous people. As a result, by manipulating the essence of time in the link between past, present and future, Bandler was able to provide credibility for herself helping her to effectively convey her message of the importance of active Indigenous land right movements. Finally, through the effective use of metaphors that correspond with timely events, Bandler was also able to convey her message about co-operation.
