SUMMARY:
Life is like a road, and each persons route is unique.
Sometimes, the road is difcult, demanding, and even dangerous. Other times, we can feel like were coasting. But one thing is certain somewhere along the way, well all experience obstacles, disappointments, heartaches, and pain because no ones path is perfect. In fact, the Lord never guaranteed us lives of ease and comfort, but He did promise that He would guide us every step of the way. Even though there are rough places on our roads, Christ walks with us through each and every difculty. Our journeys with Jesus begin when we accept Him as our Savior, but being a Christian doesnt always mean Hes leading the way. Each of us must continually choose to submit to His guidance.

because He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Jesus is willing to direct anyone who wants to be led, but we sometimes resist His path when it includes hardship and pain. But we have to remember that even though the road is difcult at times, the Lord promises to work everything out for our good (Rom. 8:28).

What will help us follow the roads God has in mind?

The world clouds our perception, but when our hearts are pure, God gives us His thoughts as well as the ability to discern between right and wrong, good and best. schedules. We must recognize the Lords right to guide us in our daily activities. His wisdom and direction are always available if we take time to listen. A typical day controlled by the Lord includes attention to:

Leisure time. We cant allow the Internet or television to ll our minds with the worlds ideas and philosophies.
Healthy

The

bodies. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, so we have a responsibility to care for them. Although illness is a part of life and cannot always be avoided, we should try to be healthy so we can accomplish all God has planned for us. If our bodies are weak or dont work properly, we wont have:

The energy for each days tasks. The ability to keep our minds consistently focused and alert. The readiness to take on new challenges. The capacity to nish a task. The right level of enthusiasm. The willingness to take risks. The ability to operate at full speed.
Good

courage to trust and obey God. Trust and obedience are how we experience His best for our lives. They are essential because the Lord will ask us to do things that appear unreasonable or cause pain. If we courageously follow Him, God will take care of all the consequences. Keep in mind that obeying the Fathers challenging assignments always results in greater blessings and rewards than we can imagine. Sometimes, they come immediately for us to enjoy here on earth, but if thats not His plan, we can be sure that they are waiting for us in heaven.

relationships. Since the people we know inuence what we think and do, its important to let the Lord direct us in choosing friends. Some people we associate with can lead us to make sinful or foolish choices, but the right friends help us stay on the path God has in mind. This is also why we should be helpful friends to others. Good friends will: Encourage us when were down. Motivate us to do our best. Energize us to take on challenging assignments. Comfort us in times of difculty. Defend us when others accuse or attack. Love us for who we are rather than what we can give them. Accept us unconditionally. Be patient with us at all times. Serve us when we need help. Forgive us when we make mistakes. Confront us when were headed in the wrong direction. Treat us with kindness.

When we cant understand what the Lord is doing or where He is leading, we shouldnt hesitate. Instead, we need to trust and obey Him because Hell faithfully walk through the situation with us, provide whatever we need, and enable us to face it with condence. We never lose when were obedient because God will do amazing things. We will: Go where weve never been. Do what weve never done. Give more than weve ever given. Surrender what weve held too tightly. Love those weve never loved. Forgive those weve failed to forgive. Trust God in ways weve never trusted Him before. Become what weve never been.

CONCLUSION:
Life at its best is a road you travel with Jesus as your Guide. Along the way, youll learn to follow His lead and watch Him work. However, youll never experience His blessings if you take your own path. No matter where you are on your road, its never too late to start following Christ.
