DATELINE - Spring 2015

Heather Maupin, D.D.S.

2015 is going to be a great year! It is

a year of change, new adventures, and
exciting, endless opportunities. As we start
this 137th year as IDDS, I would like to
challenge you to find your Perfect YES.
Let me explain... as a wife, a mother
of 3 energetic children, 2 high-energy
bird dogs, a business owner, a dentist, a
liaison and committee member to 2 ADA
Committees, I had to learn to find my,
Perfect YES. It was early one morning
(5:15AM), and there I lie on a yoga mat at
Daily Burn. Im thinking this is crazy,
this is crazy, I have so many things to do,
soo tired, then class begins. Our teacher
sets our focus for the day. Excerpts from the
book, The Perfect Yes, by Lysa Terkeurst,
immediately grabs my attention. Messages
like, if you say YES to one thing, it means
saying NO to everything else, make sure
the YES is worth it. BAM, WOW that
simple. We started the practice of Yoga and
the teacher would remind us, you can do
this, you are perfect just as you are, RIGHT
NOW.
What a wonderful way to start your
business day. One focus...find your perfect

YES and believe in yourself?? So simple...

Lets believe in each other!! Band together
and speak up! PPO, HMO, Twitter,
Instagram, Facebook, I Phone 6,
Ipad Air, WOW? Change is fast and
can be overwhelming.
2015 offers so many areas in which we,
as a dental family, can make a difference.
Indiana will host its first MOMs (Mission
of Mercy)Event. Change will happen and
will make a difference in the lives of our
patients, who otherwise may not seek dental
care.
Pick one in which to get involved:
IDDS Spring or Fall General Membership
Meetings, Indiana Mission of Mercy Project,
IDDS Foundation Golf Tournament, and
the Peer Review, Membership and New
Dentists Committees.
IDDS, as a family, can make a difference. We need everyones help. Why did we
choose this profession? A simple thank you,
a smile, the knowledge of a job well done,
a pat on the back-- it all makes a difference
for a year of great change in 2015. Please
find your Perfect YES and get involved in
organized dentistry.

The Board:
1) Accepted the elected 2015 slate of officers.
2) Received a proposal from First Merchants Bank for profit sharing

of the meeting site. The Board thanked Dr. Bruce Wiland for
overseeing this purchase for IDDS.
4) Encouraged Dr. Dave Wolf to continue with the proposed
Resolutions to the IDA House of Delegates that he drafted, and
asked him to involve the other component leadership and allow
them to introduce the Resolutions at the June Annual Session.
5) Thanked Drs. Keith Alvarez, Chad Bailey and Wayne Kinney for
their service on the IDDS Peer Review Committee.
6) Thanked Dr. Bruce Wiland, Immediate Past President, who is
rotating off the Board, for his leadership, and continued service

Drinks Destroy Teeth Latest

Dental App, first in USA

The Drinks Destroy

Teeth App will be the first
educational app created by
a state dental association.
The App currently in the
design and testing phase,
will be launched during the
French Lick IDA Annual
meeting, June 11,12,13. The
App will be useful for patient
education in dental offices
and classrooms.
The Drinks Destroy
Teeth App demonstrates acid
erosion, plaque, white spot

lesions, cupping and fluoride

on a 3D movable mouth.
The DDT App will have two
videos. One features acidic
reaction with a soft drink
can. ( it is gone in less than
3 minutes) The second video
demonstrates the amount
of sugar in one soft drink a
day, or 7 per week or 30 per
month or 365 days or one
year.
We use interactive
science lessons about the
pH of selected drinks. In
the Power of pH users will

predict the pH of various

drinks. The Scoop on Sugar
lab allows students to pour
sugar as an exercise with the
tablet into sports drinks, soft
drinks and energy drinks.
There are explosion boxes
giving more information,
glossary words and a quiz.
Franklin College is
our education partner. The
videos and actors are Franklin
College products. Dr Connie
Ables Rigsbee, professor
of Education, helped with
the App Workgroup and

Dr. Diane Buyer

the initial lesson plans. The

App uses current technology
to reach youth in a relevant
format. We anticipate the
ability to download the app to
phones and interactive tablets
in the near future.
