Introduction
This guide provides the collection of Data Domain MIB (Management Information Base) objects and notifications. The audience for this guide is system administrators and other advanced technical users requiring concise, targeted information to assist them in monitoring Data Domain systems. Descriptions of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and MIBs are not included in this guide, but are widely available on the Internet. Instructions for using SNMP on Data Domain systems are provided in the DD OS Administration Guide and Command Reference Guide. Both documents are available from the Support portal at: https://mydatadomain.com. Follow the links to Product Documentation. note The Data Domain MIB complies with SNMPv1, v2c, and v3 protocols.
1. Go to https://mydatadomain.com. 2. From the left column of the Welcome page, click Documentation and then click Product Documentation. 3. Select the system platform from the Platform drop-down list, and click View. 4. Click View in the Documentation column for the product version. 5. Click the link to the MIB. You must be using the Firefox browser to preview file contents as formatted text. 6. Click Save As to copy the MIB to a location of your choice, typically the location of the SNMP management tool.
1. Copy the file DATA_DOMAIN.mib to a Unix or Linux system on which the SNMP management tool is available. 2. At the command prompt, enter: snmptranslate -m ./DATA_DOMAIN.mib <trap OID> 3. For more information on the OID and suggested action, use the switch -Td.
dataDomainMibObjects (1.3.6.1.4.19746.1)
Each object within the MIB is assigned an SNMP OID the numerical equivalent of a path in the MIB hierarchy written in ASN.1 format, which is a string of numbers separated by periods or dots. The MIB assigns readable labels to OIDs, which enable the SNMP manager to interpret and assemble SNMP messages. The ASN.1 prefix, combined with the five-digit Data Domain enterprise identifier is 1.3.6.1.4.1.19746. The OID for the first object, dataDomainMibObjects, follows the enterprise identifier and begins with .1 (1.3.6.1.4.1.19746.1). Remaining objects and subobjects are numbered in order, based on the Data Domain MIB hierarchy.
