Call for IPSF internship at the Alliance for Health Promotion (A4HP), Geneva
About A4HP The Alliance for Health Promotion (A4HP) was set up in 1997 at the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Conference on Health Promotion in Jakarta. It has evolved throughout the years and has become a multi-sectorial coalition of NGOs committed to health promotion. It holds briefings at the World Health Assembly every year and will be organising its 3rd Regional Workshop in Africa as well as the 4th International Forum on Health Promotion in November 2014. The slogan of the Alliance is From local knowledge to health in all policies. IPSF and FIP have been long-standing members of the Alliance and are also represented on the Board. A4HP Mission To improve the health and development of all people by building a collective NGO voice and strengthen advocacy, policy and action in the promotion and protection of health. Duration of internship 14th April 30th June 2014 *In regards to the starting date of the internship there is flexibility up to the 28th of April. Description of internship The intern will be involved in the Activity Plan of the Alliance, specifically the preparation of major meetings of the Alliance, namely: Health Promotion Day (18th May) The Annual Briefing during the World Health Assembly (21st May) The 3rd A4HP Regional Workshop in Africa (July-August) The 4th International Forum on Health Promotion in Geneva (November) A special opportunity for the intern this year would be to participate at and help with a session of the A4HP (jointly organised with the International Co-operative Summit organizers, Qubec) at the Geneva Health Forum, one of the largest gatherings of health professionals. Other tasks of the intern include: To undertake research and create a database on successful health promotion programmes (best practices, how to measure impact, etc.), with special attention to pharmacists projects and involvement of students and young professionals. To undertake research at the Library of WHO, the Graduate Institute and the United Nations if required on the potential themes of the Alliance major events in compliance with WHO priorities To create a draft proposal (training module) for a joint project addressing health promotion through mobilising students and young pharmacists To explore possible funding sources for the above project To facilitate communication through regular input for the A4HP website and Facebook page, and to collect information for the Alliance Newsletter To represent IPSF at the Alliance Board meetings and take minutes To participate at relevant international meetings at the UN (including Human Rights Council meetings), WHO (including World Health Assembly), Global Health Programme of the Graduate Institute and others related to the Alliance activities taking place in Geneva during the period of the internship. To assist in preparing meetings of the Alliance and take notes Depending on the intern's area of interests and skills alongside with the approval from the A4HP supervisor, IPSF additionally offers an opportunity to: Serve as the IPSF focal point within the structures of the Alliance; Contribute to the IPSF Policy / Public Health Committees as their co-opted member; Partake the IPSF delegation to the 57th WHO World Health Assembly (May 19-24, 2014); Attend conferences and represent IPSF at meetings within the United Nations system in Geneva with either permanent or special ground passes to UN buildings. Requirements of the intern Strong interest in public health, social determinants of health, sustainable development, health in all policy, and other related topics Fluent in written and spoken English (French is an added value) Good information technology (IT) and internet skills Excellent research, drafting and time management skills Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team Conditions This is an unpaid internship. All travel and living costs including medical insurance are at the responsibility of the intern. Reporting and place of work The intern will assist and be accountable to the Secretary of the Alliance. He/she will be working at the Office of the Alliance in Geneva, Villa Grand-Montfleury, Grand Montfleury 48, CH-1290 Versoix.
