Nothing about this long sword reveals its true nature.


In the hands of anyone but a paladin of the Shadow Lands, a holy vindicator is a +1 longsword. Even spells such as identify or analyze dweomer do not reveal its true nature, although it does radiate a faint aura of good and law at all times. In the hands of a paladin, however, the holy vindicator's true power awakens. At its weakest is a +2 blessed mighty smiting longsword. It gains an enhancement bonus of +1 plus an additional +1 for every for every five points of the paladin's base attack bonus or fraction thereof (max +5). In practice this means it has an enhancement bonus equal to 1 plus the number of attacks per round the character is allowed by their base attack bonus. As a Blessed weapon (MIC 29) it can be activated three times per day as a swift action to automatically confirm critical threats against any creature that would be a valid target of your smite ability. Other effects related to threatening or confirming critical hits are unaffected by this power, i.e. the additional damage applies automatically but a roll must still be made to see if the other power activates. As a Mighty Smiting weapon (MIC 39) it grants an additional +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls when used to smite an opponent. In addition you gain one additional use of your smite ability while wielding this weapon. It may only grant one extra smite a day, regardless of how many different characters wield it. Two times per day it can cast cure moderate wounds (CL 3) on its wielder as a swift action. Additionally the wielder can cast antimagic field at will. This functions as if it were cast by an 11th level

cleric. The sword retains its enhancement bonus to attack and damage but all of its other abilities are suppressed by the field. The anitmagic field ends instantly if the sword leaves the paladin's hand. The sword only retains its enhancement bonus inside its own antimagic field, similar effects from other sources effect it normally. Finally it grants the paladin spell resistance equal to 5 plus the paladin's level whenever it is wielded or carried. A holy vindicator is considered to be both good and lawfully aligned for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction. For the purpose of adding additional enchantments, the holy vindicator is considered the equivalent of a +4 weapon, e.g. adding a +1 property would cost the difference between a +4 weapon and a +5 weapon, 18,000 gp. Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, antimagic field, cure moderate wounds, holy aura, creator must be lawful good.
