CHICHERA SOCCER TEAM FIRE QUEENS

2.1 BACKGROUND

The Chichera Fire Queens (I am in the red jacket)

In 2010 this community started a womens football team
dubbed the Chichera Fire Queens. They are coached by
Chrispen Gomo one of the residents at Chichera Plot, whose
wife also plays for the team. They have 23 players whose ages
range between 14 to 34 years. In 2014 the team was promoted
to Harare Province Division 2 Womens Football League.
I have been assisting the team with money for registration in
the league, transport and money for refreshments. I would love
to assist them with more but I cannot afford to supply all their
needs on my own, as the cost of running a team is high without
a sponsor. They need a sports kit which includes soccer balls,
track suits, soccer boots, soccer uniforms as well as money to
meet their league obligations such as referee fees, and league
levies.

This team is an example of how a hopeless situation can turn

into a positive one and I have been inspired by their resilience.
For this community soccer is not only to keep fit, or to have
something to do, the sport boosts the confidence of both player
and spectator, especially for an impoverished community which
was terrorised in the 2008 Presidential Run-Off.

2.4 WHAT DOES THE FOOTBALL TEAM NEED?
2.4.1. Affiliation Fees
The team is required by Harare Province Women Football
(Division Two) to pay affiliation fees of US$350 for the Fire
Queens to play this season. There also other costs such as
referee fees, coach training and team administration training
courses, these cost can be paid during the course of the season
after affiliation fees are settled. Please find attached the
Zimbabwe Football Association quotation, below is a breakdown
of the ZIFA quote.
