Cheerio, Ill Be Back Soon! I just love school and, Im not looking forward to having to have at least six weeks away to recover from surgery that is scheduled for Monday 3rd February. You will all be very close in my thoughts and prayers. School will be in the very safe hands of our wonderful team of teachers, teaching assistants, support staff and volunteers; I am confident that no aspect of your childs education will be compromised. Mr Debenham will take on the role of Acting Headteacher alongside the schools Senior Leaders, Mrs Green and Mrs Pritchard. As usual, please see your childs class teacher at any time if you have any concerns or questions. We shall be welcoming excellent student teachers, Mrs John and Miss Watkiss, to join Mr Debenham and Mr Nelson, as the teaching team in Class 4. Mrs Green will take on pastoral and behavioural responsibility for Classes 1, 2 and 3. Parents evenings are scheduled for 26th and 27th February when you will be updated with information about your childs progress and attainment. Letters to book appointments will be sent to you on Wednesday 5th February. Its fitting that our value for February is Patience I shall be endeavouring to put it into practise(!) and look forward to being back with you all later in the term. Mrs Daniel Independence A hugely important part of our role as parents and teachers is to nurture children who are increasingly independent. Independence is key to successful learning; children need to read and think for themselves and they need to practise skills on their own as well as learning how to co-operate and be part of a team. Determination, perseverance, grit and resilience are characteristics of children who make very good progress. In school we are focussing on developing your childs skills as an independent learner in 2014. Independence in terms of every day practical skills is also important. A guide to the sort of expectations you might have for your child at different ages and stages will be on the website within the next week. In the meantime if you would like a hard copy please ask in the office. Some of these expectations can be taught In school but many relate to life skills that can be encouraged at home. We know that children are all different but you may find this a useful guide.

A Special Time in Eardisland On Sunday 19th January, twenty-three of our children from Reception to Year 6 gathered with congregations from local parishes for a really special time of music and worship. The service was in the style of Taize with the children leading everyone in four-part rounds and in beautiful songs accompanied by Eti Woodcock (recorder), Danielle McQueen (flute), Emily Pudge (flute), Greta Douthwaite (glockenspiel), Rev Julie (oboe), Mr Debenham (cello) and Mrs Daniel (piano). Christy Lynch sang a solo and Bethan Carter, Lily Connop and Polly Knight shared Bible readings. Thank you to all the families who supported this first Taize service it was great to be together. We shall look forward to celebrating Mothering Sunday in Eardisland Church on 30th March. Everyone will be welcome. Future Dates:

This Sunday, 2nd February, at 9.30am there will be a Christingle Service in Kingsland Church . It will be a celebration of Candlemas and children of all ages are welcome. The PTA will be holding a Valentines Day Cake Sale on February 14th at 3.15pm. Please get baking! Parents Evenings are on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th Feb and you will be receiving a letter next week. We look forward to seeing everyone on one of the evenings. We are looking forward to our annual Winter Music Concert on Wednesday 12th February. This will be for instrumental soloists (the children will know if they are playing) and the Steel Band.
