Established in 1997, Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles (LPME) is the premier lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) instrumental music group in Chicago. We are committed to the education of the public at large about the positive aspects of the metropolitan Chicago LGBT community through public musical performances and non-musical events. We provide a forum for adult musicians, inclusive of any background, ethnicity, gender identification or sexual orientation to meet and improve their skills by playing in various ensembles, performing great music along the way. LPME is seeking a dynamic shhh!OUT! Lakeside Pride Jazz Ensemble Music Director, effective April 15, 2014. This ensemble performs 4-6 concerts per year throughout the Chicago area. Rehearsals are held in Chicagos Uptown neighborhood. A strong background and passion for jazz and big band music is expected. A strong professional network in the Chicago jazz community is beneficial. Responsibilities and duties will include: Lead all weekly rehearsals (September through June) and performances Actively recruit new members, engage and retain current members and facilitate member ownership in the needs of the ensemble Develop and confirm performance opportunities that are both artistically satisfying and appropriate to the mission of our organization Appoint ensemble coordinator (if necessary) and to help manage and support the ensemble Additional responsibilities may be added in the future, as needed

Therefore, we expect our Director to have exceptional communication skills and be flexible in working with all stakeholders of our organization. This person should value interaction with people of various backgrounds and experiences. Strong organizational and administrative skills are necessary for this position. A firm grasp of business management practices is important. This role works in partnership with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders to plan the season within an established operating budget. All major administrative decisions must be approved by the Board to ensure the ensemble embodies the mission and vision of the organization. The Director will also be expected to participate in our annual strategic planning sessions that ensure the ongoing financial stability of the ensemble and the organization as a whole. As one of the public faces of Lakeside Pride, our Director will be known for providing the link between our organizations mission and the public at large specifically targeting the LGBT community. While we expect the artistic level of our groups to be at its absolute highest, we exist as an organization that celebrates adult amateur musicians of all playing abilities. Additionally, giving back to the LGBT community stands at the forefront of this position. It may be necessary to speak publically or participate in activities that promote all of the music ensembles within our organization. Though it is not required, is it preferred the Director have a direct connection to the LGBT community or show significant examples of support for the community over a period of time.
