FINDING A CURE:

SENIORITIS

For those of you who have yet to experience the phenomenon known as Senioritis, consider yourselves lucky. For many who are completing the nal semester of their degree, the struggle of Senioritis is all too real. It can be described as a decrease in levels of motivation towards studies nearing the end of ones university career. Symptoms include opting for any other activity instead of attending class, dreading anything that requires opening a textbook and a general sense of apathy towards all things school-related. We have compiled some tips to help you combat those nasty symptoms, doctors orders! 1. GOAL SETTING Sit down, and focus on what it is you really want in 5 years from now. What do you want to be doing? What do you want to have accomplished? Be specic, and be optimistic. Its true when they say you can do anything you put your mind to (and work hard for). Put these goals where you will see them on a daily basis. Remind yourself of what you want, and that what you are doing now is helping to prepare you to get there. 2. STUDY SMART By now we have all learned that leaving that 2000 word paper until 11 pm the night before is not necessarily the best strategy; however history seems to continue to repeat itself. And while we all have good intentions at the beginning of the semester, the weeks begin to pass, and readings go undone.

Sit and reect on the lessons you have learned over the past years, there is no better time than right now to implement those lessons. Read ahead, make good notes, start that endof-term project now.. I dare you. You may have scheduled study and work time into your day, but simply blocking off a period of time is not enough. Be sure to make the most of this time to by getting rid of all of the distractions. Facebook will still be there once youve nished reading that chapter, I swear. 3. TRY SOMETHING NEW Im sure you have heard it a million times by now, but what you do outside of the classroom is what differentiates you from others in the job market. What you might not hear as often is that you will remember these experiences long after you have forgotten who the heck Michael Porter is, or what the four Ps of Marketing are. Get involved, volunteer, give something you have always wanted to do a shot. Adding something new in your nal semester will certainly help keep things interesting. One nal note: if this is your last year, it is helpful to sit back and reect on where you were when you rst began your days in University and realize how far you have come. Think about all of the incredible people that you have met, and realize that you will never all be in the same space again. Enjoy the company of those around you and the last days of your undergrad!

ENTREPRENEURSHIP BOOTCAMP:
The MSA and Faculty of Management are very excited to announce the Entrepreneurship Boot Camp coming up on February 8th and 9th. This weekend will be focused on helping students come up with a ve-minute elevator pitch of a business startup that could be attainable. There will be mentorship from a very prominent group of over 10 judges consisting of a Senior Director from Disney Interactive and the CEO of Plug and Play Tech Center an incubator located in Silicon Valley. The mentors will be spending the weekend working closely with the students to help them with any inquiries they may have regarding their business venture. There will be two cash prizes of $5,000 donated by Plug and Play Tech Center for the pitches that show the most promise. Along with being a good learning opportunity this weekend will allow students to network with many of the local business community members. This event is open to students from all faculties! Our goal is to connect those show have an entrepreneurial spirit and help them nd the resources that will make them a success in the business world.

JDC West is a competition that is lled with an electric energy that has to be experienced to believe. The competition spans multiple disciplines including: ten academic teams, debate, sport, participation and social. Apart from the competition, there are many networking benets due to the large number of corporate sponsors including EMCO, Target and PwC. Additionally, networking with likeminded, ambitious business students from around Western Canada has allowed me to grow my personal and professional connections. Although JDC West has been one of the most benecial activities for my career, it has also been the most fun. Participating in a team of 50 UBCO students has been nothing short of amazing! !
