Outside of public sector fulfillments, overall commercial spending was also poor as factors such as political instability and exchange rate volatility resulted in many enterprises curbing PC spending.
The surge in tablet and smartphone shipments in the market has directly impacted channel confidence in PCs, as IT Retailers continue to shift their portfolio to stock low-cost tablets and smartphones which are easier to sell. This has also contributed to the lower-than-expected shipments for PCs in 1Q13. On the other hand, the public sector spent a total of US$ 4.4M on PCs 1Q13, with the number of PC shipments increased by 3.2% QoQ, but a huge 179.4% YoY. However, most of these shipments were actually delayed fulfillments from 4Q12.
