Indonesia PC Market Highlights (1Q13)

In Q1 2013, for the 2nd consecutive quarter, Indonesian PC market charted a growth of 3.7% in sequentially. One of the biggest contributor to the growth was from the increase PC activity from cities outside Java islands, such as Kalimantan and Sumatera. Demand for mini notebooks in Indonesia remains high, thus the decline of mini notebook shipments by 59.6% YoY, coupled with the lack of a viable replacement for this form factor caused overall Portable PC shipments to fall by 4% from the same quarter last year.

Outside of public sector fulfillments, overall commercial spending was also poor as factors such as political instability and exchange rate volatility resulted in many enterprises curbing PC spending.
The surge in tablet and smartphone shipments in the market has directly impacted channel confidence in PCs, as IT Retailers continue to shift their portfolio to stock low-cost tablets and smartphones which are easier to sell. This has also contributed to the lower-than-expected shipments for PCs in 1Q13. On the other hand, the public sector spent a total of US$ 4.4M on PCs 1Q13, with the number of PC shipments increased by 3.2% QoQ, but a huge 179.4% YoY. However, most of these shipments were actually delayed fulfillments from 4Q12.
