Urgent appeal: 93 Rohingya at the Immigration Detention Center (IDC), Suanplu, Bangkok, need
support during Ramadan
A total of 93 Rohingya from different groups are seeking support from individuals and organizations to
receive enough food to participate in their prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. The Rohingya, who
are being held in the Thai Immigration Detention Center in Bangkok, are categorized in the following groups
(though the exact number in each group has not yet been clarified):
a. Rohingya from Rakhine State in Burma,
b. Rohingya from refugee camps in Bangladesh,
c. Bangladeshis from the same boats,
d. Muslim Burmese from Burma (for example, Yangon),
e. Rohingya who have lived in Thailand since the 1988 incident but were later arrested.
As Muslims, they all must have enough food to start and break their fasts during the month of Ramadan.
People’s Empowerment Foundation (PEF), along with its volunteers, has taken the responsibility to provide
support for the detainees and to attend their rituals. However, financial support of 2,000 - 3,000 baht per day
is required to sustain the rituals. We have small funds until the end of August but need additional support
from September 1st until 21st, the last day of Ramadan.
At this time, it is crucial to obtain support from different contributors on short notice. Therefore, PEF is
appealing Muslim businessmen, individuals and the world community to come forward and support this
vulnerable group. Those who are interested in helping can transfer funds to the following bank account:
