CFD 101
! CFD = Computational Fluid Dynamics
! CFD solves full sets of flow and turbulence
equations in three dimensional space; it is a 3D
virtual hydraulic modeling laboratory.
! CFD modeling is generally more complicated
than 1D and 2D modeling tools and involves
solid modeling, meshing, solving and results
post-processing.
! Key software: ANSYS FLUENT and FieldView

CFD Modeling 101
Improve Flow Distribution to Grit Chambers
Uneven flow distributions to six grit chambers result in some
grit chambers over-loaded and some grit chambers under-loaded.

Summary
" CFD modeling is a cost-effective tool for solving flow problems
for water and wastewater engineering.
" Use of CFD modeling can greatly improve flow distributions in
treatment plants and achieve satisfactory hydraulics conditions
for pump stations, grit chambers, influent, effluent channels,
contactors, clarifiers, etc.
