The Osborne Standard range of Vertical Bearing operates in a self contained oil bath which prevents internal corrosion due to demanding environments. The bearing comprises of a Thrust Collar which is keyed onto the rotating shaft. The radial and axial load is transmitted through the thrust collar onto the Thrust & Journal pads, which supports this load by generating and sustaining a Hydrodynamic oil film. Preloaded journal pads are provided to offer increased stability together with handed Thrust pads to maximise on load carrying capacity.
The above diagram shows the Oil circulation path within the bearing assembly during operation.
Osbornes standard range of Vertical Bearing is designed for 2 types of cooling method: Water cooled and Circulating Oil cooled. Circulated Oil cooling is often specified when cooling water is not available or cooling tube are not acceptable. Water cooling is provided by using our standard Cupro-Nickel 2 turn extended surface cooling tube, other materials can also be used depending upon the type and quality of cooling water.
Temperature Measurement
All bearings can be fully customized to suit customers individual requirements. RTDs can be provided to accurately measure the Thrust Pad, Journal Pad & Oil Bath temperatures. Local Dial thermometer can also be added to our designs to provided local temperature measurement. All of these instruments can be fitted with thermowells to allow easy removal without the need to completely drain the oil from the bearing. Customer preferred instruments can be incorporated into our designs or details of our preferred standard instruments can be provided upon request.
