Universal Remote using IR on Pocket PC

Pocket PC or Smartphones have built in infra red ports. This infra red port can be
programmed using embedded VC++ to act as an universal remote control for the
various equipments like television, VCD/DVD players, microwaves in the house. This
project will involve programming a Pocket PC to act as an universal remote
controller and making a front end through which users can add more devices and
their control sequences which can be then downloaded to the Pocket PC. For doing
this project the first thing that you will need is a pocket PC with infrared. The
cheapest PDA with this facility will cost you around 12,000 Rs. Embedded VC++ is a
languge whcih is a scaled down version of VC++. You can use the WIN32 library to
access the IR port and send signals to it. For programming as a universal remote
you must first find out the codes output by standard remotes. For that another
program can be written. To start with develop a program on PC that can be used to
capture data send by remotes using an IR adapter. IR adapter costs around 350Rs.

Road Traffic Simulator

From personal experience it appears that the flow of traffic on a highway is a

sensitive function of its volume. When the traffic density reaches a certain level,
hold-ups begin to appear. This effect is caused by one car slowing and setting up a
chain reaction in the vehicles behind. The aim of this project is to construct a visual
road traffic simulator. The number and characteristics of the vehicles should be
programmable (e.g., the range of reaction times of the drivers, the type of vehicles,
the skill of the drivers, the effect of obstacles, etc). The simulator should be capable
of testing ways of improving traffic flow (e.g., limiting the number of vehicles that
can enter a junction over a given period).

Security System using IP Camera

This Project does the recording of vedio images form an ip camera and transfer it
into a centralized computer system. The compressed video format can be stored in
computer and can use for checking security issues. To start with this project you
need to learn VB.net. Other languages can be used but VB.net is the easiest. Then
you must get an IP camera. The camera sends images as IP packets. The camera
itself will have an IP address. You can connect to that IP using TCP/IP and read
images from it directly. Once you have them you can compress them.. or convert
format store in HDD etc. Once you can capture the image the application is your
imagination You can reduce the frame rate of the video to about 1 frame per second
and then store it in the HDD. This is done in most of the security systems today.

2D and 3D Games
Nowadays its fairly simple to create a 2D or a 3D game. All that you need is a
proper game idea. As far as coding is concerned you can use graphics libraries like
OpenGL or Directx to create stunning visuals with minimum coding. And again if you
are not satisfied there are languages designed only for gaming. One such language
is DARKBASIC. It has all support for a 3D game. You can create your game charcters
and game world in a 3D modelling software and use DARKBASIC to manipulate
them. Omeagabasic is its mobile counterpart. These two programs have made
creating games childs play.

Vehicle Access Control

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is the latest technology trend in inventory

tracking and management. The RFID technology can be used very effectively in
many other areas involving applications to identify and object, person etc. RFID
technology can also be used to locate a particular object/person. To use this
technology in vehicle access control Long range RFID reader and active tags are
used. Vehicles with access to a particular place are fitted with RFId tags. An
automated gate is setup and a rader is palced on the gate. When a vehicle with
access comes the reader reads the tag and operates the motor of the gate to open
it. after the vehicle has passed the door closes. The gate opens only for vehicles
with the tag.

Multi Energy based X-ray baggage Inspection System

X-Ray Baggage Inspection System is a computer enabled portable equipment to

identify any offensive material such as Weapon in a sealed baggage. This unit
consists of a conveyorised belt, which is used to carry the object through the
inspection tunnel, where X-rays are incident on the object. This signal is fed to Data
Acquisition Card (DAQ), fitted to PC. An analog to digital converter, the part of the
DAQ, converts the signal to an 8-bit digital signal. The PC captures the digital data
produced by the analog to digital converter fitted to the DAQ. This data then
displayed on the monitor screen as the image. The image thus obtained is refined,
filtered using different kinds of the Image Processing techniques. The image edges
are enhanced so that the objects are clearly visible and have a better look. Filters
like Embossing filters (north embossed and south embossed), Laplacian Filter is
applied for the enhancing and detecting the edges that makes the image of the
inspected item more discernible. Also the proposal is a scheme for Adaptive Image
Contrast Enhancement based on a generalization of Histogram Equalization (HE). HE
is useful technique for improving the image contrast, but its effect is too severe for
many purposes.

IR-based Video Streaming on Mobile Phones

This Project is all about to provide easily affordable security system for a office or
house or bank or any important room where you want to have security by
connecting IR Transmitter and Receiver at the entrance of the room. If anytime, the
Ir Rays are cut, The PC is intimated abut the same. Immediately, an SMS is sent to
the owner of the setup regarding the intrusion such that the owner can open the
application in his cell and view the live video of the happenings. Also, an alarm is
activated at the PC?s end to alert the people around regarding intrusion. This
project is intended to : View live video recording through a mobile. This application
allows the mobile user to track the activities happening at a particular location. Take
the snapshots of the video recorded through webcam in a mobile. Store these
snapshots as images in the mobile. Images can be stored in different formats
subjected to the a particular selected format. To display the time with the image
when it was captured. in the GPRS enabled Mobiles. Language used: Core Java J2ME
J2EE(jmf, servlets) Java Mail API Requirements: Software Requirements J2SDk1.4 or
better. J2ME WTK2.1 or higher JMF2.1.1e or higher Jakarta Tomcat Server 5.0 or
better. Hardware Requirements Pentium P3(2.66GHz) Processor or higher. Minimum
256 MB RAM. WebCam. Other Requirements GPRS enabled Mobile with a minimum
of 20KB of free memory to upload the application. PC connected to internet using
direct connection. Description: ?GPRS Video Streaming? is an Internet browser
application developed with the main intention to view the live events taking place at
a site wherever the webcam will be focusing, through a GPRS enabled Mobile. It
gives user the high quality images with much less (General Packet Radio
Service)GPRS or Universal Mobile Telecommunication System(UMTS) traffic, so the
communication with the web will not be a cost problem nowadays? GPRS or UMTS
rates. As security is a critical factor for the business and at many places, so
everyone who utilizes this application can get to know that the events happening at
a particular location with just a mobile from a remote location. This package uses a
user friendly GUI so that the people can use it with utmost ease

Bricks Ball Game

Bricks ball game is a game which is arranged in the form of bricks and a circular
ball. The ball is being controlled by a player. The ball is colliding with a paddle which
is on the bottom of the screen and is being controlled by keyboard or mouse. On
collision with paddle the ball bounces in the upward direction and touches the
bricks. As ball touches the bricks, the bricks which will be touched will be disappear.
In this game there should be multi-player system.

presenting his/her lectures with voice, messages and with a web camera taking the
continuous image of the teacher and is being streamed by a steaming server and
the voice of the teacher being encoded by the server and a chat server handling the
message transfer between the teacher and the login students(clients). the server
manages all the client(student) requests through mapping the requested class links
to the respective IP address of the teacher taking the particular class. At the server
side a scripting language like php would be used to update or create any new
classes to the database and those updation and creation will be available to each
clients (students). On the student (client) machine, all the available class links will
be displayed after login. the student can choose to any classroom and attend the
class and send doubts/queries through messages, handled by the chat server.
