WELCOME TO PEACE WITH CHRIST

LUTHERAN CHURCH!

We give thanks to God that you are joining us today!

Many of our guests are seeking a home church where they
can be part of the Fellowship of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace with Christ is a congregation that is a family not an
“organization”. We are small enough to allow people to
know each other by name, and yet large enough to offer
opportunities for growth and service. What we “specialize”
in is not programs or productions, but simply The Gospel
of Our Lord Jesus. Christ, His Word, and the Cross are
what provide the foundation for faith and ministry. If you
are interested in learning more about Peace With Christ
Lutheran Church, please call the church office at 226-4721.
Pastor Patrick would welcome the opportunity to visit with
you personally.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall di-
rect your paths.” Proverbs 3:6

THE TIME before the service may be used for prayer and
preparation. Read through the worship bulletin and familiarize
yourself with the service. A few moments spent this way will help
make the service more meaningful.

NEXT WEEK’S LUTHERAN HOUR MESSAGE:

“A Big Mouth” Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. Cruel
words can wound and kill. The Word of Christ brings
healing, forgiveness, and life. (James 3:8-10) Listen to
The Lutheran Hour Message on KOA, Denver (AM850)
at 6:00 a.m. and KFKA, Greeley (AM1310) at 9:30 a.m.

Peace With Christ Radio Broadcast: KCOL (600AM), at 9:00 AM

Sundays.

*******************************************************

Peace With Christ has been blessed with three additional pastors
who are part of our congregation. Today we welcome Rev. David
Caspersen as our guest preacher. Rev. Caspersen and his wife Carol
have served the Lord faithfully, most recently in Cheyenne Wyoming.
God bless the Caspersens and the message of salvation that Rev.
Caspersen brings to us today.

deeply into the book of Galatians. Please come and be fed,
nourished, and equipped by God’s Word to do battle with
sin, the world, and the devil!

part in a study of The Minor Prophets. We will
begin with Matins at 8:45 with the bible study
following. Come for prayer and study, stay for

morning. Thank you for your donations!

port Roadrunners for Christ. A monetary gift equivalent to the

Roadrunner to continue delivering their precious cargo and message
of hope. Marked envelopes are available in the Sunshine Room.
♦ Kay’s Angels continue their work on denim quilts, pillows, and pot-
holders for November’s craft fair. The “Angels” meet most Mon-

Family EDucation Night

FED night begins this Wednesday! Plan to make this a
regular part of your family’s schedule. We’ll start with a
quick meal at 5:15 and class will follow from 6:00-7:00.
There is something for everyone, from young to “mature”
as well as our regular Confirmation classes.
**If any of you have groups looking for good fund-raising
activities our FED night meals are a great way to make
some extra cash. Contact Lisa Bernhardt.

What kind of man are you anyway? What a question! But

maybe a better question for us is “What kind of man does God
call us to be?” The King’s Men study group will be considering
what the apostle Paul wrote on this subject this as we work
through Gene Getz’s book “The Measure of a Man”. We meet at
6pm on Wednesday, during FED study hour. If you are not al-
ready attending class, you are welcome to come consider this
question with us. Contact John Pennington, Martin Sampson or
Dan Prevedel.

The Lutheran Study Bible “…search the Scriptures because

you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that
bear witness about me,…” (John 5:39) If you would like to or-
der a copy of The Lutheran Study Bible at a special price, you
can do so prior to Reformation Day. This new edition contains
many helpful tools that can enhance your study of God’s Word.
Please contact Wes Nierman (226-5936) to find out options
available. Special price expires on October 31.
Phase one of the chancel remodel is near completion. The cost of
phase one has been approximately $16,000.00.

During construction we learned the ceiling was damaged due to

last year’s lighting strike. The repairs have been completed. It
was decided during this time that from a practical & financial
stand point that we prepared for the ceiling lights. Congrega-
tional feedback has determined phase two will be lighting, carpet-
ing, and chancel furniture. The cost will be approximately
$21,000.00. The breakdown is as follows:
1. Lights: $3,852.32
2. Carpeting: estimate $8,400.– 9,000.
3. Chancel furniture: estimate $9,000. There has been a
donation of $1,100. to the furniture.
There will be posters in the Narthex to keep the congregation in-
formed of phase two’s financial status as donations are received.

A READING FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD
APOLOGY OF THE AUGSBURG CONFESSION
ARTICLE IV: JUSTIFICATION
FOURTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Christ's name is received only by faith. Therefore, we are

saved by confidence in Christ's name, and not by confidence in
our works. For "the name" here means the cause that is men-
tioned, because of which salvation is gained. To call upon
Christ's name is to trust in His name as the cause, or price,
because of which we are saved. Acts 15:9 says, "cleansed
their hearts by faith." Therefore, the faith that the apostles
speak about is not useless knowledge, but a reality. It receives
the Holy Spirit and justifies us.

Habakkuk 2:4 says, "The righteous shall live by his faith." Peo-
ple are just by faith. By faith they believe that God is favor-
able, and he adds that faith gives life because this faith pro-
duces peace and joy in the heart and eternal life.

Isaiah 53:11 says, "By His knowledge shall the righteous one,
My servant, make many to be accounted righteous." What is
Christ's knowledge unless it means to know Christ's benefits,
the promises He has scattered throughout the world by the
Gospel? To know these benefits is properly and truly to believe
in Christ, to believe that He will certainly fulfill what God has
promised for Christ's sake.

Scripture is full of such testimonies. For in some places it pre-

sents the Law, and in others it presents the promises about
Christ, forgiveness of sins, and free acceptance of the sinner
for Christ's sake. (paragraphs 98-102)

Prayer and Study

Date: September 6 - September 12

Luther Quote: “Christ teaches us that we should not be anxious

about temporal food and about clothing but should think only of
daily necessities. So He says (Matthew 6:34): Be satisfied with
the care of each day, and do not add to the care of today that of
tomorrow; for tomorrow will come with care of its own. It would
certainly be a good exercise of faith to learn to pray God only for
the bread of today, so that then one might trust in a greater
God.”

Russia – September 1-15

LCMS work began in Russia in 1992, and LCMS World
Mission is involved in theological education in Russia
on various levels. LCMS World Mission also supports
our partner church in Russia as it trains leaders for out-
reach in this vast land.
Daily Prayers:

Sunday: For the HIV/AIDS outreach that is taking place

throughout Russia through the cooperation of various partners.
HIV/AIDS is a serious issue in Russian society and a great oppor-
tunity to share Christ’s love with others.

Monday: For the faculty of the Lutheran seminary in Koltushi,

Russia, as they train future leaders for the partner church—may
they impart grace and wisdom to their students.

Tuesday: For the recent graduates of the Seminary, as they be-

gin their ministries in ELCIR congregations and missions across
the country.

Wednesday: For all of the pastors of the ECLIR. May God use
them as they teach and train the members of their congregations
and reach out to those in their communities with the Gospel of
Jesus Christ.

Thursday: For the laypeople and non-ordained evangelists who

are trained through special programs at the seminary in Koltushi.
May the Lord guide them as they shine as lights in the darkness
with the Gospel of Christ.

Friday: For the members and leaders of the ELCIR as they

reach out to diverse people groups in the less-evangelized areas of
Russia. There are 120 different ethnic groups in Russia!

Saturday: That God would use the Christian resources for chil-
dren—supported by North American congregations, Sunday
schools, and day schools—to build up faith in the readers’ hearts
and minds.
