The Magi Visit the Messiah

(Matthew 2:1-12)

Bible reading for DEC 29th, 2013

1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him. 3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the peoples chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written: 6 But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.[b] 7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him. 9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Today we celebrate Grand Parents day. On Sunday December 28th CML is taking all youth to Navy Pier for winter wonder fest. SMYO is hosting annual Christmas Dinner on Monday Dec 23rd 6pm The Carol Singing is progressing in our parish in different houses. Thanks for those who participate this program. Please encourage this out reach event Next Marriage preparation classes will be held on March 7-8-9, 2014. Please contact Mr. Pappachan Moolayil for registration. Pro life conference is taking place in Virginia Syro Malabar Mission. Anybody would like to participate please contact Kochachan Fr Roy St Jude Church Vicar Fr Tijo informed that some parishioners havent given money after taking Car Raffle tickets. The drawing will be on 24th December. All altar servers will meet on January 11th in the church at 9.30 am for prayer.

A Christmas Message
The grace of God has appeared offering salvation to all. In the midst of the darkness, light shines. A child is born. And has no longer has dominion. The mystery of Christmas Mass is that the light of the world shines in the midst of the darkness. The eternal message of Christmas is light in the darkness, hope in a world of despair. The first communication of the good news is given to lowly shepherds. By the time of Luke were people of questionable character who lived mostly on the margins of respectable society. The poor and the lowly have always been Gods most favored people. Let us become humble and wise as the shepherds and wise men. Wishing you Merry a Christmas. Fr. Joy and Fr. Roy.

PRE-CANA Course
Pre-Cana course hosted by Mar Thoma Sleeha Cathedral will be held from March 7- 9, 2014 (Friday 2:00 pm thru Sunday 3:00 pm) at CASA ITALIA (former Sacred Heart Seminary), located at 3800 W.
