Embargo Act - Responding to bad relations with Britain and France, all trade between the United States and Great Britain stops. The act nearly destroys the American economy. Social Embargo Act leads to depression, unemployment skyrocketed, and many people become poor. War Hawks organize political figures push for war with England in the United States. Lewis & Clark Expedition to establish relations with the Indians in the west.

Political Jefferson vs. Hamilton - Federalists backing Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton and Republicans backing Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson begin to clash over the chartering of a national bank. Washington sides with Hamilton. Jay's Treaty - Washington signs Jay's Treaty with England. It avoids war with Britain and protects American commercial interests. The Indian Trade and Intercourse Act - enacted to improve relations with Indians by granting the United States government sole authority to regulate interactions with Indians. The sale of Indian lands to individuals or states was forbidden.

Whiskey Rebellion A rebellion over taxes. Washington immediately shuts out the rebellion proving that the government is supreme.

Andrew Jackson Political Nullification Crisis - South Carolina declares the tariff legislation enacted by Congress unconstitutional. S.C says they would secede if necessary. Worcester v. Georgia - The United States Supreme Court rules in the case of Worcester v. Georgia violates Cherokees rights. The Court rules that the Cherokees are separate nation, but Jackson overrides the ruling. Whig Party forms Angered politicians against Jacksons policies form a party with the slogan King Andrew Economic Maycomb Veto - President Andrew Jackson vetoes am act that would have authorized the federal government to invest $150,000 in the Maysville Road Bill. Jackson Vetoes Bank of the United States - President Andrew Jackson vetoes the bill rechartering the Bank of the United States. He transfers all the money to smaller banks. Economy turns stagnant. American system ends.

1832 Tariff - President Jackson passes a set of tariffs. Favored the northern industry but angered southerners.

Indian Removal Act - Congress passes the Indian Removal Act, the removal of all Indian east of the Mississippi River. The Indians would be compensated with new lands drawn from the public domain west of the Mississippi River.
