Pak-Iraq vows to open new avenues through parliamentary diplomacy: Ayaz Sadiq
Islamabad, Dec 6 (APP): Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan and Iraq should open new avenues of collaboration through increasing parliamentary diplomacy which will enhance the brotherly relations between both countries. He said this during a meeting of Pak-Iraq Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), with a 43-member Iraqi delegation led by Osama Abdul Aziz Muhammad Naujaifi, Speaker Iraqi Parliament including members of their Parliament and parliamentary committees including Education, Foreign Affairs, Human Rights with other notable here on Friday at National Assembly. Both the official exchanged pleasantries and pledged to cooperate for strengthening bilateral relations between both countries as, currently the bilateral trade of both countries is US $ 62.6 million which is very low compared to the presence vast trade potential. Pak-Iraq Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), meeting was co-chaired by the PFG convener Syed Imran Shah and his counterpart Humam Baqir Hamoudi. Parliamentary representatives from both sides participated in the meeting and an active exchange of view took place from both sides. Convener PFG Syed Imran expressed the sentiments of the people of Pakistan for the Iraqi people. He further mentioned that the presence of two holy cities of Karbala and Najaf has exponentially increased the prominence of Iraq in the eyes of Muslims all over the world. He stressed the need to further cement the ties between both countries especially in the field of health, education, energy, tourism and science and technology. Hamam Baqir expressed his deepest regard for the Pakistani people and thanked the government for inviting the Iraqi delegation. While highlighting the need to defeat the menace of extremism Humam said that both the countries are facing the common threat of terrorism and sectarian violence. He declared the current visit really promising and hoped that it would pave the way for further cementing of bilateral ties. Other parliamentary representatives also expressed their deepest felicitations for hosting such auspicious visit. They hoped that the visit would be a great source of opening new vistas in all the major fields and especially in increasing the parliamentary cooperation between both countries.
