"t literally ceases to exist! The bottom line is that time is completely driven +y emotion! There is a big difference in how you experience it if you are wal#ing around stressed vs! if you are spending the moments of your life doing things that really matter to you! So& while there is no more physical time for any of us& there is a lot more time for what really matters to you! There are so many things competing for and demanding your focus in life! The most powerful way to direct your focus is through the $uestions you as#! Remember& the process of thin#ing or evaluating& is nothing more than the process of as#ing and answering $uestions! The challenge most people face is that they are not conscious about the $uestions they as# themselves!

%uestions are the laser o human consciousness2 They concentrate our focus and determine what we feel and do! Thin# of $uestions this way: "magine that your brain is the ultimate computer& and in that computer is the answer to any $uestion you could possibly have! Suppose you consistently as# yourself& 7 hy do these things al!ays happen to me"7 3our brain will search its database and ta#e every possible form of input it(s ever received + what people have ever said to youA what you(ve ever said to yourselfA and what you(ve ever read& heard& or seen! Then& it will create an answer for you: 7#hey al!ays happens to you $ecause you are a tur%ey& 7 Right/ .hatever you as# yourself consistently& you will get an answer to! "f you as#& 7 'o! come ('m so luc%y"7 your brain will search until it finds references to support the fact that you are luc#y! "f you did nothing else but start as#ing and answering these three $uestions& you would immediately begin to see a radical shift in your thought process and therefore the results you are producing in your life! $I-T3 The se$uence in which you as# these $uestions is the difference between success and failure! Bor example& you may #now all the individual digits in a person(s telephone number& but unless they are in the right se$uence& the numbers are useless! %ne spring morning& Clvis wa#es up& ta#es a good loo# at himself in the mirror& and shudders in disgust! ,e *ust can(t bear carrying around those twenty extra pounds he(s gained in the last few years 1and subse$uent love handles5! That morning& he decides to solve his problems by adding going for a ten+mile run to his to+do list! 6y the end of the run& he is exhausted& his lungs hurt& he(s sweating li#e a pig& and his heart feels li#e it(s going to pop right out of his chest! The next morning his muscles are so sore he can barely move& and he has a big& fat& ugly blister on his big toe! To console himself& he goes to ?enny(s for a 0rand Slam brea#fast and decides that exercise is simply not for him!

The problem is that Clvis focused only on the action item of going for a run instead of establishing a clear picture of what he really wanted! .as the result or outcome he wanted to run ten miles/ )o! .hat he really wanted was to lose 9D pounds! So often we forget what our real result or outcome is and we start thin#ing instead that we have to write out a to+do list to ma#e it happen! There are many ways Clvis could have achieved his result or outcome if he #new what it was! .hat he really needed was a compelling result or outcome + something li#e& 7To lose 9D pounds and en*oy the process of reaching my ideal weight and vitality!7 $I-T: )otice that Clvis( result is speci ic and measura+le! Rather than saying 7" want to lose some weight&7 Clvis has a better chance of hitting his target if he ma#es it much more precise& specific& and measurable! 'nd& what do you thin# adding the words& 7en*oy the process7 might do to Clvis( chances of success/ .hen you are clear about the specific result you want to achieve and you focus on that result& your behavior changes instantly! To give another example& when you are only focused on what it is you need to do& for example& 74all >ohn Smith&7 you can call >ohn and certainly cross it off your list& but this does not guarantee that you truly accomplished something meaningful! "nstead& what if you had been clear about your result or outcome in advance and decided that what you really wanted 1i!e! your result or outcome5 was& 7To connect with >ohn Smith so that he feels totally supported and nurtured!7 This not only increases your chances of really achieving this& but it gives you a lot more flexibility + you can call >ohn& but you could also drop him a $uic# note& or send him an e+mail& or have dinner with him one evening! The first step in RPM - deciding on the clear result or outcome you want to achieve - is the most important step in creating your RPM plan.

This is one of the most important parts of the process because without it you lose your emotional drive! .ithout it you have more stress& which can cause you to give up when the inevitable challenges arise!

%ne of the strategies that ma#es the RPM system so effective is that the first thing you do when you sit down to create your plan every wee# is to review what it is that(s most important to you in your life 1and we(ll cover the wee#ly planning process later in this manual after you understand the concepts in each section<5! People tend to have a stronger level of resolve about going after a result they are committed to vs! an outcome& primarily because the word 7result7 connotes a more definitive resolution!

6ut after all that& we reali ed that sometimes %utcome is simply the better word& so we decided to use both! The best way to #eep the two words straight is to as# yourself:

When I7m creating my R!M +loc&s and I7m prioritiHing the individual action items8 am I prioritiHing them +ased on which is most important to accomplish8 or +ased on the order I7m going to do them in6 The answer to this $uestion is to some extent based on personal preference< The way we teach the system is for you to number your actions based on priority rather than order! The reason for this is that the RPM system is always based on having you focus first on what(s most important to you! 'nd& another word for priority is 7importance!7 "t(s very possible that the item you will probably complete last on your list 1because se$uentially you may need to do some of the other things first5 is actually your highest priority and it(s important to remember that when you are wor#ing on your plan! Most often& however& the priorities usually end up coinciding with the order in which you need to achieve them! The bottom line is that if you prefer to wor# based on the order in which you need to achieve them& you will still get the same result! The most important thing is that you stay focused on your resultGoutcome first and that you stay associated to your compelling purpose! It seems li&e R!M ta&es a lot o time to learn and use2 Why should I spend the e5tra time to do this6 (nd why do you say R!M is the astest way to results6 RPM is a uni$ue philosophy and learning new ways of thin#ing always ta#e more time! 2sually& however& if someone is really struggling with this issue it(s because they are missing *ust a couple of #ey distinctions that will allow them to maximi e their results and time using this system! There are several things you need to #eep in mind! 8! RPM does ta#e a little extra time to master +it(s li#e learning to drive a stic# shift car! 't first& you have difficulty focusing on all the different elements+the stic# shift& the clutch& steering& watching the road& etc!+but once you master it& it becomes second nature to you! 3ou ultimately get to the point where you can not only drive the stic# shift car effortlessly& but you can also tal# on the phone& listen to the radio& drin# your coffee& etc< 'nd& the truth is that this system may ta#e you a bit longer to use even once you(ve mastered it because hopefully you are ta#ing the time to complete all the components! 2sually the things in life that have the most meaning and the highest rewards are the things that re$uire a little more effort our part! The reason we call it the Rapid Planning Method& however& is that when you are using the system consistently& it will absolutely accelerate the pace at which you

achieve the results you want most! 6ecause you will be absolutely clear about what it is you want and why you want it& you will become more focused& more passionate& more committed& more resourceful& more flexible& and more fulfilled in the process! .hen you do this& you begin to create an unbelievable momentum in your life! The rewards for living this way are unimaginable! Binally& and perhaps most importantly& the biggest level of fulfillment in RPM planning comes from two places! o Birst& it comes from having purposes that really are compelling for you! Second& you need to ta#e time& at a minimum once per wee#& to stop and celebrate all your victories! Life moves so $uic#ly in the 98st century that you must ta#e all the moments you can to ac#nowledge where you already are and where you are going! Ta#ing *ust five or ten minutes a wee# can do ama ing things for you when you use that time to remember some magic moments you shared with people to thin# about what you really did accomplish to thin# about what you(re happy about or grateful for! 'nd& typically you will use words or phrases with emotion: because they deserve it& to feel proud& to ma#e a difference& to give bac# for everything "(ve received& to #ic# butt and ta#e names<< 2sually your purpose are feelings or emotions that only you can determine whether you feel! "f your purpose does not invo#e strong& positive emotion in you& #eep digging to find the words and feelings that will move you most!

Binally& remember that the three $uestions of RPM are specifically designed to ensure that you are using the system effectively!
