CollabCAD Getting Started 1. Introduction


CollabCAD is a Java based distributed CAD/CAM Software System developed by Computer Aided Design Group of National Informatics Center t!e I" Support professionals from India# CollabCAD is based on well proven $pen domain tec!nologies li%e Java Java &D Java 'MI $pen Cascade geometry %ernel# CollabCAD facilitates t!e conventional CAD/CAM capabilities li%e design drafting surface and solid modeling feature based modeling basic NC features data e(c!ange scripting etc# It offers bot! )art Design and Assembly Design# CollabCAD will run on Windows and Linux platforms. It is available as two modes *+ CollabCAD Standalone , to wor% on standalone systems -+ CollabCAD Client.Server mode for collaborative designing and multiple s!aring# /or C0S1 only Standalone mode is to be used#

&.1 Installing CollabCAD on Windows

&.! Installing CollabCAD on Linux

?ou must !ave at least 955 M0 free dis% space on t!e /tmp file system in order to install CollabCAD# "!e file siEe of collabcadGlinu(#tgE -8B M0 and t!e installation would reAuire around 455 M0 # After downloading t!e file type t!e following command tar ,xv-f collabcad.linux.tg"!is will install CollabCAD on your system by creating t!e directory called collabcad#

CollabCAD uses a &D Geometry Dernel# "!at is t!e point is a &D point and so are all t!e ot!er entities li%e 6ines arcs etc# "!erefore t!e basic Modeling )!ilosop!y followed in CollabCAD is &D unli%e in ot!er Solutions w!ere t!e start is -D and t!en it gets into &D Mode# Wor7 8iew In view of t!e above in CollabCAD one always see t!e &D ;or% Space and starts wit! &D ;or% Space# In CollabCAD ;or% Space always refers to &D space# ;or% view is a display of any of t!e &D spaces suc! as front bac% top bottom rig!t left isometric or any of t!e user defined views# "!e name of t!e wor% view would be displayed in blac% color in t!e control panel of CollabCAD#
