Introduction to Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources


Introduction to Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is offered to all first year agricultural education students who are just entering into the program. It gives the students an opportunity to explore what agricultural education has to offer. They will have the chance to explore careers in agriculture, agricultural leadership and professionalism, FFA, SAE, Animal Systems, Plant Systems, and Food Products and Processing. Each class will prepare the students for success in the program as a whole. This class is designed for basic knowledge in the area of agriculture so that the program and build upon itself each year. This class allows students to understand agriculture on a local level, building up to analyzing agriculture on a global scale. The students will develop a plan that allows them to be successful in the program over the course of their educational careers. They will be exposed to a various array of agricultural components and will determine their interests so that they can create their future.

Intermediate Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources


Intermediate Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, is offered to all second year students who are enrolled in agricultural education. The class builds on the introduction class, developing a solid understanding of how food gets from farm to table through distribution and processes of the food chain. It takes the basic knowledge learned in the introduction class and allows students to apply their knowledge through critical thinking. They will discover a deeper meaning of agriculture by exposure to animal systems, plant systems, food products and processing, natural resources, careers in agriculture, agricultural leadership and professionalism, FFA and SAE. They will analyze each area of agriculture to understand the need for agriculture and how agriculture relates to the world. The students will be challenged to analyze problems and present solutions that best fit for agriculture and sustainability of the planet.

Advanced Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources


Advanced Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is offered to all agriculture 3 and 4 students but may only be taken once. It is a pathway that helps students guide their interest in an agriculture career. Students are challenged to apply their knowledge in every content area relating to agriculture. They are exposed to the agricultural industry as a whole, as well as, agricultural business, food products and process, plant systems, animal systems, agricultural leadership, agricultural careers and professionalism, FFA and SAE. Each unit is designed to challenge students to explore beyond the books. They are required to connect each pathway and determine the need of each in relation to the agricultural industry. This class is designed for students who are preparing for college and a career in agriculture. They will work with industry professionals and develop working relationships with the community. They will have the opportunity to tour various industries in agriculture, representing a variety of agricultural producers from commercial to organic. The students will have the opportunity to make the class their own, through inquiry learning and collaboration.

Agribusiness System
Agribusiness Management is offered to all agriculture 3 and 4 students but may only be taken once. This class is designed to help students understand the basics of agricultural business, starting with a general understanding of supply and demand. They will be given access to business essentials and will learn the importance of record keeping and how to accurately manage an agricultural business. For this class, they will have been required to have taken a computer class and a basic business class that gives them the foundational knowledge of business. Through this class they will be given the opportunity to analyze agriculture on a global level, communicate with professionals in the industry, and develop their leadership and management skills. They will be given a business to analyze and evaluate or they will have the opportunity to develop their own agribusiness.

Plant and Soil Systems


Plant and Soil Systems is offered to all agriculture 3 and 4 students but may only be taken once. This class will allow students to expand their views on the plant systems, structure and significance. They will learn about sustainable agriculture practices from conventional and organic perspectives. The will learn about plant management and soil conservation. They will have the opportunity to have hands on plant systems application throughout the community and school. This class is designed to help students guide their passions in soil and crop science, horticulture, and environmental sustainability. They will be required to have an understanding of the plant and soil system so that they can grow on their prior knowledge. They not only have to be passionate about plants and soil but they will be challenged to open their minds and critically think about practices in agriculture and develop their own opinions about the industry as a whole.

Animal Systems
Animal Systems is offered to all agriculture 3 and 4 students but may only be taken once. This class will allow students to diverge their interest into animal systems, structure and significance. They will have an in depth understanding of animal agriculture, animal growth and development, animal behavior and care, agricultural leadership and animal husbandry. They students will have hands-on experience with small and large animals. They will analyze animal agriculture on a local, national and global level to determine the importance of the animal industry. They will also have access to professionals in the industry from veterinarians to USDA inspectors. They will work collaboratively with each other to determine the importance of animal agriculture.
