Welcome to this edition of AutoCAD learning assistance 3D. In this edition, we will be talking strictly 3D (three
dimension).
At the end of this section, you will be able to:
• design right from 2D interphase to 3D interphase
• use the tools that will help you produce a good 3D design
• set 3D work space to suit your design
• describe and recognize all the tool bar
• extrude in all direction
• control the UCS with ease
• better appreciate AutoCAD package.
We will start with the introduction of the tools that is required for the production of a good 3D design.

Starting a drawing

On the layer manager, click on Layer properties manager. On the layer properties manager’s, click on NEW
LAYER and set the dialog box as shown below
On the draw tool bar, click on rectangle

Draw a rectangle on the model space

On the dashboard click on extrude, select the rectangle

Selecting the rectangle

(2)

After selecting the rectangle, right click and enter a

figure (say 200) on the command line and press enter.
NOTE: all extrusion are in the direction of Z

To create a cylinder on the box

1. On the draw tool bar, select the circle.

2. Draw a circle on the box as shown in fig. I bellow.
3. Click on extrude, select the circle,
4. Right click enter a figure and press enter on the key

different types of views available.

1. On the open visual style box, select the one circled.

(on your own, explore the other visual styles)
Controlling the UCS
Understanding the UCS ( universal coordinate system), is the most important aspect of 3D drafting. It is the
direction of the UCS, that determines the direction of extrusion and your ability to properly control
the UCS is the ultimate advantage and production of good 3D drafting.

Move the UCS

To change the direction of Z, click on x on the UCS tool bar and press enter on the key board, the UCS immediately changes direction
as shown in the fig below.
The idea behind the UCS is that, you click on the one you wouldn’t want to rotate e.g. the illustration below. Click
on Y & press enter to rotate X & Z.

Continue this process till you feel you have properly understood the
whole thing.
Try applying it by drawing different types of blocks and objects.
We hope this product of ours has been able meet some of your needs
in the use of Auto CAD 3D. For better use of this product in your next
study section, it is advisable to have an Autodesk Expert to further
explain areas of difficulties.

From the production team:

Thank for trying our work we appreciate you and do promise to deliver
even better and advanced package in the next edition.

Thanks.
