TABLE TENNIS RULES

ETTA rules and standards must be applied at all eventualities. Semi final and final will be best of 5, each game up to 11 points. All other games will be best of 3 games and up to 11 points. 2 points will result in a win, 1 point in a draw and ero points for a loss. !f the points are e"ual then the pla#er who has lost least games will ta$e the higher position. %A%T &oordinator will have the last sa# and has the power to improvise and ma$e final decisions.

ADDING UP THE POINTS


The winner of a match is the one who wins the first T'( or T)*EE or +(,* games -according to the competition . we will announce the best of criteria in the draws section/ A game consists of 11 points There must be a gap of at least two points between opponents !f the score is 10.10, the game goes in to e1tra pla# until one of the pla#ers has gained a lead of 2 points

The point goes to the pla#er who successfull# ends a rall# The score of the server is alwa#s announced first

SCORING
A pla#er scores a point when his opponent commits one of the following errors2 )e isn3t able to return the ball. )e returns the ball outside the opposite side of the table. )e lets the ball bounce more than once in his own court before returning it. )e touches the ball several times successivel#. )e stri$es the ball in volle# -without it bouncing on the table/ above his side of the table. )e moves the table during pla#. )e touches the net or a post. )is free hand touches the table. )e ma$es a bad service -see service/

SERVICE
The initial order of serving is decided b# lot. Service changes ever# 2 points, e1cept during periods of e1tra pla# where it changes each time. Service must adhere to the following rules2 The ball rests freel# on the open palm of the hand. The hand holding the ball must be above the level of the table. The ball should be pro4ected upwards -at least 5 inches/ The ball should be struc$ when it is falling and behind the table. The ball should first bounce in one3s court, then in the opponent3s court. Service can be diagonal and also in a straight line in singles Service can be repla#ed when2 The ball touches the net or its supporting posts before touching the opponent3s court -33let33 service/ The ball touches the net then is struc$ in volle# b# the opponent without it touching his court. The receiver was not read# at the time of service.

A pla#er stri$es the ball when it is not his turn. (bstruction is not an acceptable claim for pla#ers of the same doubles team.

DOUBLES
Service must be diagonal, from the right half court -mar$ed b# a white line/ to the opponent3s right half court After that, pla# can cover the whole table, but each partner must ta$e his turn. Service changeover in Double !

A1 serves to 61 -2 services/, 61 then serves to A2 -2 services/, A2 then serves to 62 , 62 serves to A1 and continuing in this wa# for ever# 2 services. +ollowing service, each pla#er ta$es turns to return the ball.

!n addition to the aforementioned cases in singles, a doubles team scores a point when its doubles opponents ma$e one of the following errors2

At service, the pla#er lets the ball bounce on the left half court, on either side of the court.
