Part A - Objective short answer: Each question should be answered in one sentence.

I will choose any seven of the following fifteen questions. Each item is worth 2 points. The entire section is worth 14 points. Please pay attention to whether the question is asking you to answer based on the text or the lectures.
1. According to Lewis, what are the three parts of morality? The three parts of morality

would be a) relations between man and man, b) things inside each man, c) relations between man and the power that made him.
2. According to Lewis, which of those parts does contemporary/ modern society tend to overlook? Modern Society overlooks things inside each man and relations

between man and the power that made him.


3. According to Lewis, if Christianity is true, which would be more important: the individual or society? Explain why. if Christianity is true, then the individual is not only more

important but incomparably more important, for he is everlasting and the life of a state or a civilisation, compared with his, is only a moment.
4. According to Lewis, does being childlike mean stifling one's reason? 5. What are the four cardinal virtues and why are they categorized as "cardinal"? (You may answer this based on either the text or the lecture) PRUDENCE, TEMPERANCE,

JUSTICE, and FORTITUDE. This is because they are pivotal and recognized by all civilized people 6. According to Lewis, how does God view rules? God does not reward because one follows rules instead man's choices lead them somewhere else whether forward or backward from where he is currently.
7. According to Lewis, what is the difference between morality and psychoanalysis? The

difference is that psychoanalysis aims to cure the perverted raw materials presented to each individual before he/she makes a choice while morality is concerned about the actual free choice taken by man.
8. According to Lewis, what kind of love leads to a lasting marriage? It is the love that is

received from God during the union of one another during marriage and that is keeping the feeling of being in love with each other.
9. What are the three theological virtues, and why are they categorized as "theological"? (You may answer this based on either the text or the lecture) The three are hope, faith,

and charity and they are called theological mainly because they are virtues known only to Christians.
10. According to the class lectures, what makes a virtue different from a moral act? Moral Act services towards the other, Virtue functioning will inside an individual.

11. According to the class lectures, in what way can a good action done by a Christian differ from the same good action done by an Atheist? LOVE 12. According to the class lectures, why does Christianity ask that we respect the biological aspect of sexuality? Sexuality is related to the human body which should be

viewed as an artwork of God, and such artwork is responsible for the sacredness of the union of man and woman into one flesh in marriage.
13. According to the class lectures, what principle do Christianity and Modern Society share? They both share the idea that each individual must be affirmed of

his/her dignity.
14. According to Lewis, what are the two levels of faith? The two levels of faith are

BELIEF and ART of holding on to things that your reason has once accepted in spite of change of mood.
15. According to Lewis, what does hope mean? Hope means that a Christian must

continuously look forward to achieving eternal life.

16. What does Freedom for Excellence mean according to Pinckaers? Freedom for excellence is freedom by virtue of being educated through the three stages of morality 17. What does Radcliffe mean by Spontaneity? Spontaneity means acting without hesitance from within, from the very core of one individual, and that means from the Christ inside us.

Part B - Essay: 10 sentences maximum. They still tend to be more objective in nature, although I will consider some subjective statements so long as they don't form the majority of your essay. All essays ask you to integrate the ideas from the text with those we discussed in class. I will choose any one of the following seven questions. This portion is worth 16 points.
1. Why do Christian Hypocrites abound? 2. Synthesize ideas from Mere Christianity and the class lectures to explain what Faith means. 3. If you were trying to explain to someone why the Church's "old-fashioned" teaching regarding sexuality actually makes sense, how would you do it? Old fashioned view is

Either marriage, with complete faithfulness to your partner, or else total abstinence."

4. What are the similarities and differences between the Church's understanding of human dignity and Modern Society's understanding? 5. How would you "update" C.S. Lewis' teaching on Christian marriage in light of Christ's view of women as seen in the gospels? (For this essay, you will have to know the gist of those stories in the gospels in which Christ interacts with women: Martha and Mary, the Samaritan Woman by the well, the woman caught in adultery.) 6. If somebody told Lewis that the reason they disagree with Christianity is that it requires us to give up sex and drinking, how would Lewis respond? 7. Is faith just about understanding Christian ideas? Why or why not?
