This is a fine opportunity for us to give thanks for God's goodness in sustaining all of creation. It is also one of the few times during the year when we get to worship with our ecumenical partners. PLEASE SAVE THE DATE!!! On December 3rd the TLC Caregivers will have their annual Potluck and Personal Care Project for Southeast Ohio LSS. With financial fund from THRIVENT we are able to help the people in Southeast Ohio. Please plan to attend for fun and fellowship. More information will be in the HappenOnce again Blessing of the Animals was a joyous occasion. 12 dogs, 1 turtle and 2 rats were blessed by Pastor Peterson and Fr. Tim. Thank you to Janet Robertson for making the dog biscuits again this year. Thank you to Dana and Sarah Van Horn for all the many hours of hard work in maintaining the church grounds this past summer. Besides mowing, they watered, trimmed, edged, mulched, planted, pulled, emptied, cleaned, picked-up, and decorated the church grounds.

Give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good, for Gods mercy endures forever. Psalm 136:1 As the leaves change color and fall, the harvest comes in, we see the end of another growing season, and we give thanks. November is for Christians a month both of thanksgivings and of endings. Of course on every Lords Day we gather for worship we share the great thanksgiving meal or Eucharist of the body and blood of Christ. But in November the Eucharist is adorned with other thanksgivings. Weve just consecrated our pledges of financial stewardship, and we are thankful for the commitment of so many to Christs mission here at Old Trinity. Toward the end of the month we celebrate our nations day of thanksgiving. The month begins for us with All Saints Sunday, when we glorify and give thanks to God for the lives and service of all the saints who have gone before us. Finally, at the end of the month we give thanks that Christ is King, and that we will experience him as King in eternity. The festivals both of All Saints and of Christ the King point to ends. At the beginning of the month we give thanks for those whose lives and service here has ended, and at the end of the month we look to the end of all things in Christ. In the Sundays in between we are called to remember other aspects of the end. In the Gospel reading on the second Sunday of the month Jesus teaches about the resurrection of the just, and on the third Sunday of the month the Lord teaches that, though no one knows when, this world will pass away. We may not like to think much about our own end, but a life of faith in Christ, life lived to the fullest, life that really is life as we say in our invitation to eucharist these days, requires us to keep our end in mind. Christian faith teaches us about two aspects of our end. First, scripture teaches that one day our life here and now will be over. This idea may seem abhorrent to most people most of the time. But since its an undeniable part of life, were far better served to accept the fact and deal with it faithfullythat is, creatively and with thanksgiving. By acknowledging that life here and now is short and precious, we may be moved to make the most of each moment of it. We live to the fullest by considering another aspect of our end. According to Christian faith, life has an end in the sense of having a goal or purpose. This purpose is perhaps best stated in our liturgy for Ash Wednesday when the presider says: Brothers and sisters: God created us to experience joy in communion with him, to love all humanity, and to live in harmony with all of his creation. But sin separates us from God, our neighbors, and creation, and so we do not enjoy the life our Creator intended for us. As we give thanks for all of Gods goodness to us in our on-going lives this year, let us also ask Gods power to enjoy the life our creator intended for us here and now by keeping our end(s) in mind. This means cherishing and making the most of our every precious moment. It means receiving with joy Gods love in Christ Jesus. It means leaving our self-centeredness behind. It means using our time, talents, and moneyall that we have in lifeto make life better for all humanity, and it means seeking harmony throughout creation. This is life in Christ: the most real life here and now as we await the fulfillment of all in Christs eternal Kingdom. Thankfully yours in Christ, Pastor Charles Peterson

Presidents Report Its been a busy fall and it looks like it is going to continue to be so. Rally Day, Harvest-fest Luncheon, stewardship campaign, presentations on restoring and repairing the stained glass windows, Oktoberfest, and the fall clean-up are just some of the things that have been going on at Old Trinity. Throw in the CROP Walk, the Columbus Marathon, Sunday School programs, and lemonades-on-the-lawn and a lot of people have been doing a lot of things. Hopefully you have been able to participate in one or all of these activities. Looking forward, there are many more opportunities in which you can get involved. Some of these are: Thankoffering Sunday You can make a charitable contribution, participate in a special worship service, and/or enjoy a delicious lunch on November 10th. As we approach Thanksgiving, it is our chance to share our blessings with others. Set the Calendar Night Do you have an event coming up in 2014 that needs to get on the calendar so there isnt a conflict with another group? If so, plan on being in the Fellowship Hall on the evening of November 26th to get your event on the calendar. Village Lights Old Trinity is a member of German Village. A holiday event in the community occurs on the first Sunday in December, known as Village Lights. This is a chance for members of the community to visit around German Village and to get to know what is available. We have set out luminaries and provided some entertainment to try and attract people across the overpass in the past. We are going to try it again this year. Look for your opportunity to help develop this years Old Trinity effort. Capital Campaign As has been presented, theres some work that needs to be done to strengthen the church structure. This work is going to cost a large amount of money. Estimates of the costs are being collected. The directions we take will be devised as we end 2013. There will be presentations and discussions in which you can participate. Please come to hear what needs to be done, to see potential plans on how to complete that work, and to share your ideas and thoughts on the projects. There will be other opportunities for you to step up and help too. All efforts will be appreciated. Church Council The offices of President and Treasurer and the chairpersonships of the Property, Spiritual Formation, and Worship committees will be up for election this year. Some people have indicated they are interested in filling some of these positions, but maybe you would like to fill one too! An elections committee is being constructed to find candidates for these positions. Please consider what you might do.

Opportunities continue to present themselves for you to get more involved at Old Trinity. For instance, dont look now, but it wont be too long before initial discussions will be held to plan for next summers Vacation Bible School! Maybe you will want to help with that!?! So keep your eyes and ears open as you get The Happenings, The Tidings, and the InPhoNet messages to discover opportunities for you to get involved at Old Trinity. We will appreciate all that you do and you will probably find that you will feel satisfaction in your life too. Get on board at Old Trinity! And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Isaiah 12:4-5

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 106:1

Suggestions for the Trinity Tidings are always welcome

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ Congregation. The members of Trinity Lutheran Church recognize that God loves, Forgives, and calls each of us unconditionally and that every human being is created in the image of God. As a result, we welcome all people into our community of faith and invite them to join us as we seek to understand Gods love for us and struggle to be faithful messengers of that love in the world. Although our world is a place of alienation and brokenness, Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness. In response, we join hands with all our sisters and brothers, grateful for the unique gifts that each of us has to offer, regardless of our race, age, gender identity, marital status, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientation, national origin, or economic status. We celebrate together both the diversity of Gods creation and our unity as Gods people.
