Heinens and WVIZ team up for World Series of Wine

By C. Schuster-Eakin

The holiday season is coming, and nothing makes a holiday gathering more enjoyable than good food and great wine. Heinens and WVIZ/PBS have teamed up once again to host the 18th annual World Series of Wine, Northeast Ohios premier wine enjoyment and education event. The two-day event takes place on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 at the Terrace Club at Progressive Field. The Heinens/WVIZ World Series of Wine is a wonderful event for every-

one, Peg Neeson, WVIZ community relations director, said. If you already know about wine and consider yourself a connoisseur, the World Series of Wine gives you the chance to sample many wines that may be new to you, all in one location. And for those who are a little intimidated when the wine list arrives at a restaurant, this event offers the chance to sample wines and talk to winery representatives so that you can really learn about the different kinds of wine that are out there. Tasting sessions are from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, and from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Satur-

day. Guests can sip their way through two floors of the club packed with hundreds of varieties of world-class wine. Tickets start at $75 a person. Visit www.ideastream.org. Fall in love with Vermilion at the second annual Progressive Dinner sponsored by the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce. The romance begins at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1. Check in at the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce for your Progressive Dinner Trail Map and menu. Stop in to browse the Main Street Vermilion Art Guild holiday show and reception. Follow the Fish lantern lights to Tiffanys Flowers at the Old Town Hall for dessert, coffee, wine and art. Progressive Dinner tickets are $20. Phone 440-967-4477. Hop on the Follow the Fish ArtShop Trail on Nov. 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and enjoy art and shopping around town. There will be free, fun games for all ages. Visit www.followthefishtrail.com for details. If you are searching for a place to host a family gathering or want to sample some of the holiday seasons new offerings, then you will enjoy the Home for the Holidays food tasting event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 4. Spitzer Conference Center for an affordable evening of tasty samplings and a fun silent auction for early gift shopping. Tickets are only $25 in advance. The third annual event grows each year, according to Terri Bohl of Easter Seals. This year we have 12 restaurants, bakers and caterers participating with a rainbow of food offerings, she said. We look at this as a way for area food businesses to make the public aware of what they offer. Theres no better advertising than word of mouth, especially right at a time of year where people are looking for caterers or places to gather to celebrate the holidays. Participants include Applebees, Avon Cafe, Cowhaus Creamery, Dove Chocolate Discoveries, Lorain County Community College, Mama Js Homestyle Restaurant, Panera Bread, Sweets by Maggie, Sangria y Tapas Bar and Restaurant, Vintage House Cafe, YOUR Deli and Your Pit BBQ. Bohl said more than 125 guests are expected to attend. Proceeds help fund the programs Easter Seals Northern Ohio provides to children and adults with disabilities. Programs include home health care, speech therapy for children, the loan of medical equipment and camp scholarships for special needs children. Call 440-324-6600, ext. 12, for ticket information.
