Dear Friends, Fall break is a colorful time of the year.

It often reminds us of the varied aspects of God: His creations, His character and His revelations.

Dear Friends, I can’t believe it is almost August which brings to mind lots of newness. For example, a new school year; fresh Sunday School classes; the start of new sports opportunities for kids; the reconvening of choirs and Wednesday night suppers; the resurrecting of UT football frenzy; and much more. So how does “one do it all” while keeping their head on straight and maintaining integrity? How would Jesus mentally prepare for such a time as this? I think He would ask us to turn to a book with practical advice for everyday life: The Proverbs. The words “wisdom” and “instruction” in Proverbs 1:2 compliment each other because wisdom (hokhmah) means “skill” and instruction (musar) means “discipline.” No skill is perfected without discipline. Thus when a person has skill, they have also possess the freedom to create something beautiful. SHPC seeks to serve God beautifully. Proverbs deals with the most fundamental skill of all: righteousness before God in every area of life. During this upcoming month, I will provide lessons from Proverbs offering wisdom and instruction so that you might live fruitfully for God while avoiding stress. Stop and listen for God as you center yourself for Him and for His service. Shepherding for Him,
