Central CPD Practical and Theory Courses In Central London for Vets and Veterinary Nurses
Jo Hillard began Central CPD in Central London in 2009. Her objective at the outset was to bring London quality CPD courses for the Veterinary Profession, using lecturers that are well known and respected within their chosen discipline. Jo felt that, as a practicing vet, she had learnt from CPD courses in other regions of the UK and wanted to ensure that vets and veterinary nurses based in London had the same access to quality, regular courses. The course timetable focuses on topics that are current and relevant for vets and nurses working within small animal practice. Jo includes courses that she herself would benefit from as a vet working in a first-opinion practice. Delegate numbers are limited for courses so the days are relaxed and interactive seminars rather than more formal lectures. Central CPD want to ensure that each delegate benefits individually from the course and takes something new back to their practice. Central CPD added Veterinary Nurse courses in 2010 and and Practical Courses in 2013, in association with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and are pleased to be extending the number of these courses offered in 2014 due to popular demand. Course Synopsis: Physiotherapy is a rapidly growing field within the veterinary profession, not only has it been proven to enhance a patients outcome following many surgical procedures, provide pain relief and improve welfare of hospitalised patients, but clients are beginning to expect a physiotherapy protocol to be supplied after, for example, orthopaedic surgery, as it given as standard in similar situations with people. Course Synopsis: This highly practical course aims to give delegates the confidence to perform diagnostic echocardiography in practice. Delegates will learn how to achieve the standard echocardiographic views in dogs as well as giving an overview of the echocardiographic changes seen in common acquired and congenital cardiac diseases in the dog and cat, with normal dogs as well as real clinical cases used over the two days consolidate the theory. The first day will focus on machine set up, common artefact, 2D and M-mode studies. The second day will cover more advanced features of echocardiography such as Doppler studies and evaluation of myocardial function. The course will have a large practical component and at the end of the two days candidates should feel confident to achieve the standard echocardiographic views on the right and left side, perform

M-mode and Doppler studies in a variety of dogs. Numerous examples of common diseases such as valvular endocardiosis, dilated cardiomyopathy and feline cardiomyopathies will be reviewed and examples of congenital diseases such as pulmonic stenosis, patent ductus arteriosus, and ventricular septal defects will also be discussed. Course Synopsis: With the use of cadavers, this highly practical course will focus on surgical wound management techniques that are useful in everyday surgery as well as more advanced reconstructive surgery and surgical oncology. The course will cover the basics of wound healing and skin anatomy, in order to then understand the principles behind local flaps, and tension relieving techniques, before moving onto the more advanced free skin grafts, axial pattern flaps, and distant direct flaps. Practical sessions in tension-relieving techniques, skin flaps, and grafts will ensure delegates are confident to take their wound management skills straight back to practice The second day of the course will provide a grounding in surgical oncology principles, from which it is hoped an awareness of tumour

Course Synopsis: The x-ray room is one of the busiest in many practices and commonly it is veterinary nurses who are responsible for the radiography. Producing consistently good radiographs is an essential skill in practice as these often provide the information to make a diagnosis or to direct case management. Course Synopsis: Obesity is a factor in a number of feline health problems, including skin, urinary tract and metabolic disease. Cats seem to respond quite poorly to weight loss programmes, and the newly developed obesity drugs are not suitable for this species. This daylong course will cover a range of information that can be used not only to improve the success of feline weight loss programmes, but also to improve cat welfare and owner compliance. Topics to be covered include: Normal feline behaviour Altering owner motivation to improve acceptance and compliance Environmental and behavioural modification to increase feline weight loss

Course Synopsis: More than 25% of the cats in the UK are classed as overweight or obese- although in Practice this number seems much higher as they have many related health issues so they can present more often to the clinic than their slimmer feline friends.
