Central CPD Practical and Theory Courses In Central London for Vets and Veterinary Nurses
Jo Hillard began Central CPD in Central London in 2009. Her objective at the outset was to bring London quality CPD courses for the Veterinary Profession, using lecturers that are well known and respected within their chosen discipline. Jo felt that, as a practicing vet, she had learnt from CPD courses in other regions of the UK and wanted to ensure that vets and veterinary nurses based in London had the same access to quality, regular courses. The course timetable focuses on topics that are current and relevant for vets and nurses working within small animal practice. Jo includes courses that she herself would benefit from as a vet working in a first-opinion practice. Delegate numbers are limited for courses so the days are relaxed and interactive seminars rather than more formal lectures. Central CPD want to ensure that each delegate benefits individually from the course and takes something new back to their practice. Central CPD added Veterinary Nurse courses in 2010 and and Practical Courses in 2013, in association with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and are pleased to be extending the number of these courses offered in 2014 due to popular demand. A member of the Central CPD team attends every course to ensure that you have a positive experience.

Course Synopsis: Surgical oncology requires a separate skill set and mentality to much orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery. Questions about diagnosis, staging and prognosis mean increasingly the surgeon is not just cutting out the tumour, as clients are becoming ever well-informed, with increasing expectations. Many expect to be given a range of options. This lecture will provide a grounding in surgical oncology principles, from which it is hoped an awareness of tumour biology will lead to improved surgical planning, and ultimately better decision-making for the patient. Topics to be covered include: Examples of common tumours in difficult locations and how best to deal with them Possible reconstruction options after surgical excision Why some wounds refuse to heal, and how some common reconstruction problems might be avoided.
Course Synopsis: This course will provide delegates with a practical, case-based approach to the investigation and management of cats with chronic vomiting or diarrhoea, using tests and techniques that are widely available in first opinion practice. Topics to be covered include: Inflammatory bowel disease in all its guises Common gastro-intestinal cancers- what can be done? Pancreatitis- diagnosis and treatment Jaundiced cats- investigating and managing those yellow cats Triaditis- cholangitis, pancreatitis, enteritis- unravelling the "itises"
Course Synopsis: Dental radiography is one of the most important tools available to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases- it is estimated that as much as 70% of pathology can be missed without its use. This practical one-day course is designed to cover all aspects of dental radiography and radiology in the cat and dog. Diagnostic assessment of the oral cavity, oral radiography techniques, radiographic interpretation and oral pathology are all covered in lecture and group discussion format, with practical sessions on positioning and radiographic interpretationdelegates are encouraged to bring along any dental radiographs for discussion if they would like. Topics to be covered include: Oral radiography techniques and how to position your patient Radiographic interpretation Practical sessions to consolidate theory

This one-day course will start with a refresher of the ophthalmic examination, including tips on how to get the most from the ophthalmic exam in general practice, and how to fully assess the retina. The course will then cover the common ophthalmic presentations of the red eye and KCS, how to diagnose and treat them most effectively. Topics to be covered include: Top tips for your ophthalmic exam Update on inherited ocular disease The red eye- an overview from front to back The retina- what is normal and what is not Keratoconjunctivitis sicca which drugs should we be using and why Interactive case examples

Cats seem to respond quite poorly to weight loss programmes, and the newly developed obesity drugs are not suitable for this species. This daylong course will cover a range of information that can be used not only to improve the success of feline weight loss programmes, but also to improve cat welfare and owner compliance. Topics to be covered include: Normal feline behaviour Altering owner motivation to improve acceptance and compliance Environmental and behavioural modification to increase feline weight loss
