Each day we will focus on a specific shape. The lesson will start out with showing the children the shape and asking them what shape it is and what makes that shape special. After taking a few responses I by activation the students prior knowledge or schema, l will read about the shape of the day. (See table below for shape and book that will be read in whole group.) As we read each page, I will stop and ask students to recall and identify the shapes and what they became on each page.

After completion of story we will create a shape anchor chart that identifies each shape, word, the lines, sides and real world examples. Also we will view a short shape song video on the shape of the day. (Youtube)

Whole Group Activity After mini lesson and modeling. Students will be given the shape of the day to glue into their My Shape Creations Book. They will transform this shape into anything of their choosing. Before going to their seats, they will share with a partner (Think-Pair-Share) what they will turn their shape into. After completion of picture students will complete the following sentence. My _______ is a ________. Each day after they have completed the page in their shape book, I will ask a few students to share what they made using their shape. On Friday after all the shapes have been introduced, the students will be able take their books home. As a form of assessment on Friday, the teacher, myself and the paraprofessional will have each child read us their book, during their center time and make note of the students ability to identify the 5 shapes that were taught throughout the week.

Interactive Sites The activities on these sites will ask the students to identify and select the shape of the day. This will be done on the promethean board and different students will be selected to identify the shape of the day as it is requested. After the students have had their time on the carpet with the read aloud, anchor chart, fun song, math/writing whole group activity and math interactive game on the Promethean board, the students will go their assigned center. Students will go to one center a day and by Friday they would have visited all five centers.

Centers 1 Graphing and sorting using foam shapes Students will short shapes and graph their findings. 2 Shape color by the code Students will identify shapes and color them the color indicated by the key. 3 Sticker Shapes Students will use stickers to outline shapes after which they will count and record the total number of stickers used. 4 Hexagon Practice Students will practice tracing and cutting and pasting hexagons. They will also identify the number of sides. 5 Color Squares With a partner students will roll the dice and color it the indicated number of squares.

Differentiation for Centers Below

1 Students will be given an actual paper shape to lay the foam shapes on. Also these students will not be given as many shapes to sort. These students can complete the activity as specified, with no modifications.

2 The students will have the color words and shapes identified on their sheets.

3 These students will be given larger stickers and when it is time to count a teacher will count with them and help them write the number. Use smaller stickers to outline shapes and write the number of stickers used.

4 Hexagons will be cut out for these students and they will glue them in the specified spot. Tracing will be carried out as intended.

After this we will have a little discussion in regards to what shape we will learn about the next day.
