BUDDHA AND THE SIXTEEN STHAVIRAS WITH PURIFICATION NAMO GURU MUNINDRA. Bhagavan, tathagata, arhat, perfectly and fully awakened one, perfect in knowledge and good conduct, sugata, knower of the world, supreme controller of humans to be sudbued, teacher of gods and humans. In obeisance, I venerate and take refuge in you, Buddha, bhagavan, glorious conqueror, Shakyamuni; may I never be separated from the embrace of your great compassion. NAMO GURU MUNINDRA! [Now follows the essence of the method to venerate Munindra and the l6 Elder Aryas; and to attract the attention of their holy minds. Arrange statues and offerings upon the altar according to the elaborate explanations of the texts on ritual; stand up and make prostrations while reciting:] I prostrate, venerate, and go for refuge to you bhagavan, tathagata, arhat, perfectly and fully awakened one, perfect in knowledge and good conduct, sugata, knower of the world, supreme controller of humans to be subdued, teacher of gods and humans; Buddha, bhagavan, glorious conqueror, Shakyamuni. O leader of the two legged ones, when you were born On this earth, you paced out seven strides And said, `I am supreme in this world.' You showed wisdom; I prostrate to you. Your pure bodies of exquisite form, Ocean of wisdom, like a golden mountain, Fame that blazes in the three worlds, Champion of champions; Lord, I prostrate to you. Nam dag ku nga chog tu zuk zang wa. Sporting supreme signs, your face a stainless moon; Your colour is golden; I prostrate to you. Without blemish, unlike the three worlds, Your wisdom is unequalled; I prostrate to you. Tsen chog den pa dri me da wai zhal. Ser dog dra wa kyo la chag tsal lo. Dul dral kyo dra si pa sum ma chi. Nyam me kyen chen kyo la chag tsal lo. Lord, you are endowed with great compassion; Teacher, you know all that is to be known; Field of merits and virtues, like the ocean, O tathagata, homage to you. Gon po tug je che den pa. Tam chai kyen pai ton pa po. So nam yon ten gya tso zhing. De zhin sheg la chag tsal lo. Free from attachment, released from Realms of woe, through purity and virtue; Uniquely supreme, ultimate, Peaceful Dharma, homage to you. Dag pai do chag dral war gyur. Teaching the path from freedom to freedom; Well established in the trainings; Best of fields, endowed with virtues; Sangha, homage to you. Drol nai drol wai lam yang ton. Lap pa dag la rap tu nai. Homage to the Buddha chief, Homage to the Dharma refuge, Homage to the great sangha, To all three, devout homage forever. Sang gye tso la chag tsal lo. Kyop pa cho la chag tsal lo. Ge dun che la chag tsal lo. Sum la tag tu gu chag tsal. Bearers of the banner of doctrine, who received Buddha's instruction, Angaja, Ajita, Vanavasin, Kalika, Vajriputra, Bhadra, Kanakavatsa, Kanaka-Bhadvaja, Bakula, Rahulabhadra, Chudapanthaka, Bharadvaja, Panthaka, Nagasena Gopaka, Abheda, and Upasaka Dharmatala; together with your entourages, please come here. To you, who are most worthy of respect, I bow with as many bodies as atoms in all realms; in supreme faith, I pay homage to you forever. Thub pai ka go ten pai gyal tsen zin. [PROSTRATION AND OFFERINGS] O lions amongst men, Buddhas, past, present, and future; To as many of you as exist in the ten directions I bow down with my body, speech, and mind. I bow to the Buddhas pervading space.

Zang po cho pai mon lam tob dag gi. Gyal wa tham che yi kyi ngon sum du. Shing gi dul nye lu rab tu pa yi. Gyal wa kun la rab tu chag tsal lo. On every atom is found a Buddha, Sitting among countless Buddha's sons, I look with eyes of faith to the victorious ones, Thus filling the entire Dharmadhatu. Dul chig teng na dul nye sang gye nam. Sang gye se kyi u na shug pa dag. De tar cho kyi ying nam ma lu pa. Tham che gyal wa dag gi gang war moe. Of these with endless oceans of excellence Endowed with an ocean of wondrous speech, I sing praises of the geatness of all Buddhas, An eulogy to those gone to bliss. De dag ngag pa mi ze gya tso nam. Yang kyi yen lag gya tsoi dra kun gyi. Gyal wa kun gyi yon ten rab jo ching. De war sheg pa tham che dag gi to. I offer garlands of flowers, Beautiful sounds, supreme perfumes, Butter lamps, and sacred incense; I offer them all to the victorious ones. Me tog dam pa treng wa dam pa dang. Sil nyen nam dang chug pa dug chog dang. Mar me chog dang dug po dam pa yi. Gyal wa de dag la ni cho par gyi. Excellent food, supreme fragrances, And a mound of mystic substances, high as Mount Meru; I arrange in a special formation, And offer to those who have conquered themselves. Na za dam pa nam dang dri chog dang. Che ma phur ma ri rab nyam pa dang. Ko pa kye par phag pa chog kun gyi. Gyal wa de dag la ni cho par gyi. In admiration of those gone to bliss, With the strength of faith in sublime ways, I prostrate and make offerings to the conquerors. Cho pa gang nam la me gya che wa. De dag gyal wa tham che la yang mo. Zang po cho la de pei tob dag gi. Gyal wa kun la chag tsal cho par gyi. [GENERAL CONFESSION] Ah, woe is me! Great Guru Vajradhara and all other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas dwelling in the ten directions, and venerable sangha, please pay attention to me. I (name), for beginningless samsaric lifetimes until now, owing to the defilements - greed, hatred, and confusion - have committed by body, speech, and mind the ten non-virtuous actions; I have created the five immediate karmas; I have created the five similar to them; I have broken the Pratimoksha vows; I have broken the Bodhisattva's training; I have broken my tantric pledges; I have been disrepectful to my parents; I have been disrespectful to my preceptor and teachers; I have been disrespectful to my companions in the celibate life; I have done actions harmful to the Three Jewels; I have rejected the Dharma; I have abused the sangha of Aryas; I have done actions harmful to sentient beings; and so on. This accumulation of non-virtuous actions that I have done, asked others to do, or rejoiced in when others have done them, and so on; in short, my entire accumulation of faults and offences that hinder higher rebirth and liberation, and cause samsara and evil rebirth, I confess before the great guru Vajradhara, all other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas dwelling in the ten directions, and the venerable sangha. I do not conceal them, I reveal them; henceforth I take up restraint. If I confess and reveal them, I shall dwell in pleasant contacts; but if I do not confess and reveal them, I shall not. Countless evils I have committed With acts of body, speech and mind; Each and every one of these I now confess.

Do chag she dang ti mug wang gi ni. Lu dang ngag dang de shin yi kyi kyang. Dig pa dag gi gyi pa chi chi pa. De dag tham che dag gi so sor shag. In the perfections of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, The arhats, training and beyond, And in the latent goodness of every living being, I lift up my heart and rejoice. Chog chui gyal wa kun dang sang gye se. Rang gyal nam dang lob dang mi lob dang. Dro wa kun gyi so nam gang la yang. De dag kun gyi je su dag yi rang. O lights unto the ten directions, Buddhas who have found the passionless state, To all of you, I direct this request: Turn the incomparable wheel of Dharma. Gang nam chog chui jig ten dron ma dag. Jang chub rim par sang gye ma chag nge. Gon po de dag dag gi tham che la. Khor lo la na me pa kor war kul. O masters, wishing to show parinirvana, Stay with us and teach, I pray; For as many eons as there are specks of dust, In order to bring goodness and joy to all beings. Nya ngen da to gang she de dag la. Dro wa kun la phen shing de wai chir. Kal pa shing gi dul ne shug par yang. Dag gi thal mo rab jar sol war gyi. May any small merits that have amassed By prostrating, offering, confessing, rejoicing, And asking the Buddhas to remain and teach Dharma, Be dedicated now to supreme and perfect enlightenment. [SIT DOWN AND OFFER A MANDALA] Om vajra bhumi ah hum...etc. [STAND AND RECITE THE LAM RIM PRAYER] Bless me to see that the root of the path is proper devotion To my kind master, foundation of all good qualities. May I be inspired to follow him with devotion, With dauntless effort, and with respect. Yon ten kun gyi zhir gyur drin chen je. Tsul zhin ten pa lam gyi tsa wa ru. Leg par tong ne be pa du ma yi. Gu pa chen po ten par jin gyi lob. Bless me to know that this excellent, opportune rebirth, Found but once, is most rare and of great value; May I be inspired to generate the mind that, day and night, Unceasingly grasps its essence. Len chig nye pai del wai ten zang di. Shin tu nye ka don chen she gyur ne. Nyin tsen kun tu nying po len pai lo. Gyun che me par kye war jin gyi lob. Bless me to be mindful of death: my unstable body and life Will be quickly destroyed, like a bubble in a stream; May I gain firm conviction that, after death, Results pursue actions, white or black, as a shadow a body. Lu sog yo wa chu yi chu bur zhin. Nyur du jik pai chi wa dren pa dang. Shi wai je su lu dang drib ma zhin. Kar nag le dre chi zhin drang wa la. May I be inspired to always be mindful in the practice Of abandoning even the slightest accumulation Of wrongful actions, and in accomplishing The accumulation of all virtue. Tra zhing tra wa nam kyang pong wa dang. Ge tsog ta dak drup par je pa la. Tag tu bag dang den par jin gyi lob. Bless me to understand the faults of samsaric perfections, Their taste brings no satisfaction; they cannot be trusted, And are a door to all suffering. May I be inspired To strive for the bliss of freedom. Che pe mi gom dug ngel kun gyi go. Yi ten mi rung si pai pun tsog kyi. Nye mig rig ne tar pai de wa la. Don nyer chen por kye war jin gyi lob. May this pure thought (of freedom) induce in me Watchfulness, mindfulness, and awareness; Inspiration to keep my vows of the essential Pratimoksha, The root of the doctrine. Nam dag sam pa de yi drang wa yi. Dren dang she zhin bag yo chen po yi. Ten pai tsa wa so sor tar pa la. Drup pa nying por je par jin gyi lob. Bless me to see that, just as I have fallen into The samsaric ocean, so have all mother sentient beings; May I be inspired to train in the supreme bodhicitta, to bear the burden of freeing all those who wander. Rang nyi si tsor lhung wa ji zhin du. Mar gyur dro wa kun kyang de dra war. Tong ne dro wa drol wai kur kyer wai. Jang chub sem chog jong par jin gyi lob. Bless me to understand that, without the three moralities, The mere wish cannot take me to enlightenment; May I be inspired to follow with great effort the vows of the Bodhisattvas. Sem tsam kye kyang tsul trim nam sum la. Gom pa me na jang chub mi drup par. Leg par tong ne gyel se dom pa la. Tson pa drag po lop par jin gyi lob. Bless me to quell distraction towards wrong objects And to purely observe the meaning of reality, May I be inspired to quickly generate the path Of insight and calm abiding, united. Yang dag don la tsul zhin cho pa yi. Zhi ne lhag tong zung du drel wai lam. Nyur du gyu la kye war jin gyi lob. When I have trained well in the common path, bless me To immediately enter the noble path of the fortunate; May I be inspired to follow the Vajrayana, The highest of all vehicles. Tun mong lam jang no du gyur pa na. Teg pa kun gyi chog gyur dor je teg. Kel zang kye woi jug ngog dam pa der. De lag nyi du jug par jin gyi lob. Then bless me to attain certainty in the explanation That the two kinds of siddhis are accomplished On the basis of pure vows and samaya; may I be inspired To protect them at the risk of my life. De tse ngo drup nam nyi dup pai zhi. Nam dag dam tsig dom par sung wa la. Cho ma min pai nge pa nye gyur ne. Sog dang do te sung war jin gyi lob. Bless me to understand correctly the essence of The tantric classes, and the meaning of the two stages, May I be inspired to practise the holy teachings, And not be lazy in the four session yoga. De ne gyu de nying po rim nyi kyi. Ne nam ji zhin tog ne tson pa yi. Tun zhi nel jor chog la mi yel war. Dam pai sung zhin drup par jin gyi lob. May the Gurus who show this excellent path, And the helpers of true practitioners have long lives; I pray that all inner and outer hindrances To Dharma practice are pacified. De tar lam zang ton pai she nyen dang. Tsul zhin drup pai drog nam zhap ten ching. Chi dang nang gi bar du cho pai tsog. Nye war zhi war jin gyi lab tu sol. Jang chub sem chog rin po che. Ma kye pa nam kye gyur chig. Kye pa nyam pa me pa yang. Gong ne gong du pel war shog. May all sentient beings, all parents, possess happiness, May all unfavourable rebirths be ended forever, May the prayers of all Bodhisattvas be realized, May I cause all this by myself alone. Pa ma sem chen tam che de dang den gyur chig. Ngen dro tam che tak tu tong war tang. Jang chub sem pa kang na su shug pa. De dag kun gyi mon lam drub gyur chig. May the glorious Gurus lives be stable, and may migrators Equalling space have happiness and comfort. Bless me and all others to quickly attain enlightenment Through purification and the accumulation of all merit. Pal den la mai ku tze den pa dang. Ka nyam yong la de kyi jung wa dang. Dag zhen ma lu tsog sag drib jang ne. Nyur du sang gye tob par jin gyi lob. [SIT COMFORTABLY; GENERATE SPECIAL REFUGE AND BODHICITTA:] I and all migrators equalling space take refuge In Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, and in the host of deities Of Mahamuni and the sixteen Arya Sthaviras. I take refuge in the glorious protectors, The sacred Dharmapalas who possess the exalted wisdom eye. (3x) Dag dang dro war nam ka dang nyam pai sem chen tham che Lama la kyab su chi o. [THE FOUR IMMEASURABLE THOUGHTS AND BODHICITTA:] I and all appearances are in the nature of Dharmadhatu; yet I shall cause all sentient beings not realizing thusness to have happiness and the causes of happiness. I shall release them from suffering and the causes of suffering. I shall ensure that they are never separated from the happiness that is without suffering. I shall ensure that they abide in equanimity, neither too close to some, through attachment seeking pleasure; nor too distant from others, through aversion to pain. For the welfare of all beings, I shall attain the state of a fully-awakened one, therefore I will engage in worship and prostration to you, Mahamuni, and your entourage, the host of deities of the sixteen Arya Sthaviras, and attract the attention of their holy minds. (3x) Dag dang nang wa tham che cho kyi ying kyi rang shin yin pa la, de tar ma tog Pai sem chen tham che de wa dang de wai gyu dang den par ja. Dug ngal dang dug ngal gyi gyu dang dral war ja. De che du, thub pa chen po phag pa ne ten chu drug gi lha tsog khor dang che pa Nam la chag choe, thug dam kul wai rim pa la jug par gyi wo. (3x) [BLESS THE PLACE, BUILDING, THRONE, AND OFFERINGS:] By the power of the truth of the Precious Sublime Three, of the blessings of the conquerors and their sons, of the completion of the two acccumulations, and of the truth of the purity of the Dharmadhatu, may all faults of this place be purified; may this place, building, throne, and offerings endow supremacy over samsara and solitary peace, and be, as we wish, a pure realm; a jewelled ground, soft as the palm of the hand; flowering trees, streams and lakes. In the midst, a celestial mansion, square, four doors, made of precious stones. Inside, a lotus, sun, and moon cushions; may Munindra, together with his entourage, the sixteen Sthaviras, sit here and enjoy an ocean of offerings, filling the sky, like clouds, created by the power of the offering cloud mantra, the spell mantra, and conviction. yatha om vajre vajre maha-vajre maha-teja-vajre maha-vidya-vajre maha-bodhicitta-vajre maha-bodhi-mandopasamkramana-vajre sarva-karmavarana-visodhana-vajre svaha(3x) [PRAYER OF THE POWER OF TRUTH] By the power of the truth of the Three Jewels, Of the inspiration of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Of the strength of the two accumulations, And of the pure and inconceivable Dharmadhatu, May these offerings become suchness. Kon chog sum gyi den pa dang. Sang gye dang jang chub sem pa tham che kyi jin gyi lab dang. Tsog nyi yong su zog pai nga tang chen po dang. Cho kyi ying nam par dag ching sam gyi mi kyab pai tob kyi. De shin nyi du gyur chig. [WITH DEEP RESPECT, KNEELING ON YOUR RIGHT KNEE, HOLDING INCENSE AND FLOWERS, INVOKE THE GUESTS:] Supreme Muni, Arya Sthaviras, and your entourage. Through great compassion, you place those to be tamed, the squabbling sentient beings, on the path to liberation. I request you to come to this place. Conquerors, sons of conquerors, sangha, and Hearers of the ten directions; you whose firelike wisdom dries the ocean of afflictions and who are praised as a field of merit for liberation: I entreat you to abide forever. Please come and enjoy the displayed offerings, for the benefit of transmigrators. Supreme Arhats, holders of the Dharma, handed down to all beings by the Lion of the Shakya clan, who open the treasure chest of Doctrine that is in your care: I entreat you to abide forever. I invite you to propagate the sacred Dharma. Please come and enjoy the displayed offerings, for the benefit of transmigrators. You who received Buddha's word, holders of the banner of doctrine: Angaja, Ajita, Vanavasin, Kalika, Vajriputra, Bhadra, Kanakavatsa, Kanaka-Bharadvaja, Bakula, Rahula, Chudapanthaka, Bharadvaja, Panthaka, Nagasena, Gopaka, Abheda and your entourages. Please come and enjoy the displayed offerings for the benefit of transmigrators. Although you attained Buddhahood, through splendid abandonment and splendid exalted wisdom, you show the appearance of Hearers. In this special role of virtue, you sixteen Sthaviras preserve the Dharma. I request you to descend and be seated on these cushions. O sixteen Sthaviras, holders of the Doctrine including the verbal transmission of the sugata, you entered the jungle of samsara, abandoned personal welfare and worked for the welfare of others. Please through your compassion, promise to come to this place. By saying truly `Please may I take refuge in you' Upasaka Dharmatala, you be- came the servant of the Triple Gem. [THIRD TORMA OFFERING:] To delight the host of Dharma Protectors, I offer the arranged offerings of drinking water, washing water, flowers, incense, light, perfumed water, food, music, imagined offerings, and so on. I offer this nectar-like food, possessing the five sense pleasures, to the host of oath-bound Dharma Protectors, such as the four great kings, attending Shakyamuni. Please accept it, eliminate contrary conditions, and make everything favourable for the Conqueror's Doctrine and its holders. Cho yon zhab sil me tog dug po dang. Great aryas, arhats most worthy of respect, Strong in knowledge and good conduct, Living beings can make offerings to you, Please bless the Doctrine to remain a long time. Sem chen kun gyi so gyur dra chom pa. Rig dang shab den ke gui jin ne che. Phag pai gang sag chen po khye nam kyi. Ten pa yun ring ne par jin gyi lob. By the power of the root of virtue of myself and others, May the Doctrine, source of happiness and benefit, increase. May all the sufferings be abandoned, together with their causes, May the ocean of samsara quickly dry up. Dag shen ge wai tsa wa di yi thu. Pen dei jung ne ten pa pel gyur chig Dug ngal kun jung ma lu rab pang ne. Si pai gya tso nyur du kem par shog. And the ocean of merits be full. Once the exalted wisdom manifests, May I be superior to all transitory worlds, By gaining an ocean of good qualities. So nam gya tso yong su dzog gyur chig. Ye she gya tso nam par dag gyur te. Yon ten gya tso ma lu kun dzog ne. Jig ten kun le khe par phag par shog. May Conquerors of the three times, who have accumulated The two accumulations, perform virtuous actions. May there be the auspiciousness of peerless gurus, Who ripen sentient beings, and never lose their qualities. Tsog ngi thar chin du sum gyal wa yi. Trin le drub ching yon ten nam yer me. By praying to you, Munindra, the sixteen sthaviras, and Your entourages, may the Conqueror's Doctrine, Root of all happiness and good; increase, remain long, And spread everywhere. Thub wang ne ten chu drug kor che la. Sol wa tab pai pen de kun gyi shi. Gyal wa ten pa yun ring ne pa dang. Chog du kun tu dar shing gye gyur chig. [REQUESTING FORGIVENESS:] Teacher, Munindra, sixteen great sthaviras and your entourages, please pay attention to us. We request you aryas to show compassion and forgive whatever mistakes we have committed, in actions of body, speech, and mind mixed with affliction, such as: being reluctant to perform this ritual; incorrectly performing the ritual; having insufficient or poor offering substances; being sloppy and dirty; and being unable to follow the words of the text. All these errors are due to the vulgarity and low conduct of us sentient beings in these degenerate times. We request you to show pity and forgive us; please ensure that we collect no defilement now or in the future. Please also forgive us for not having found the right materials for the ritual, for degenerating our samaya, and for anything else that we may have done in ignorance, either ourselves, or by ordering others. Om su-pratishtha-vajraye svaha [If you have no image request them to depart:] Wisdom-knowledge beings, go to your natural abodes. The symbolic beings dissolve into me. Yeshe pa rang zhin gyi ne su shek. Dam tsig pa rang nyi la tim par gyur. [VERSES OF AUSPICIOUSNESS:] Through whatever auspicious virtue has been amassed, By paying homage to the Bhagavan, protector of the universe, To Shariputra, supreme in wisdom, To Rahula, who performs the dance of emanations, To Arya Nagarjuna, like a second conqueror, To the actual and lineage gurus, and so on; May all events contrary to your aims cease, and may Your happiness and goodness increase, like a waxing moon, Thus may you enjoy the glory of your splendour. Through whatever auspicious virtue has been amassed, By paying homage to the Teacher, Bhagavan, liberator, The peerless Shakya king, who has great compassion for Squabbling and protectorless beings, not yet subdued By the radiant sun of the Conqueror; To the sixteen emanated sthaviras, who received Buddha's Instruction, and carry the banner of the Doctrine; And to the assemblies of Conquerors and their Arya sons; May all events contrary to your aims cease, and may Your happiness and goodness increase, like a waxing moon, 16 Arhats puja page 80

Thus may you enjoy the glory of your splendour. Gyal wai nyi ma shen gyi ma thul wa. Gon me tso pai du kyi dro nam la. Lhag par tse wai ton pa chom den de. Dren pa nyam me shyak yai gyal po dang. Thub pai ka go ten pai gyal tsen dzin. Trul wai ne ten chen po chu drug sog. Gyal dang gyal se phag pai tsog nam la. Leg tsog chi ne chi pai tra shi de. Khye kyi mi thun gu pa kun dze ching. De leg yar ngo da tar pel gyur ne. Phun tsog pal la rol wai tra shi shog. By the blessing of the Conqueror, the sun-like Dharma lord, The great teacher, superior to all others, May harm from enemies, maras, and all obstacles, Be pacified, and may good fortune be present, day and night. Che wai che chog ton pa la na me. Cho je nyi ma gyal wai jin lab kyi. Du dang geg rig no pai dra shi ne. Tag tu pal ne nyin tsen tra shi shog. By the blessing of the sacred Dharma, The supreme nectar of reality, May suffering caused by enemies and afflictions be pacified, and may good fortune be present, day and night. Cho nyi den pai cho chog la na me. Dam cho du tsi den pai jin lab kyi. Nyon mong dung ngal dung wai tra shi nai. Tag tu pal ne nyin tsen tra shi shog. By the blessing of the beneficial deeds of the sangha, The Conqueror's sons who blaze with good qualities, May the virtue without fault increase, And may good fortune be present, day and night. Ge dun yon ten rin chen pal bar wa. Gyal se phen dze den pai jin lab kyi. Nye pai kyon dral ge tsog nam par pel. Tag tu pal ne nyin tsen tra shi shog. May the blessing of the protectors, Brahma and Indra, And the auspiciousness of their divine actions remain; May our virtuous wishes be realized, And may we be healthy, happy and have long lives.

Tsang dang lha wang sung me jin lab dang. Phen dze lha yi tra shi ne gyur te. Ge leg sam pa yi zhin drub pa dang. Tse ring ne me de kyi den par shog. [Scatter a rainfall of flowers to mark this auspicious end.] [BENEFITS AND COLOPHON] [It is said that worshipping and praying to Munindra and the sixteen sthaviras, in these degenerate times, will bring powerful waves of inspiration and blessings. Therefore this ritual has been written to enable beings to accumulate merit, to purify obscurations, and to assist the dissemination of the Conqueror's precious Doctrine.] [If the ritual is performed for relieving sickness, demons, pacifying the harms of others, prolonging life, increasing merit, increasing knowledge of the verbal doctrine and the doctrine of realization, and so on, then you should visualize the physical aspects of Munindra and the sixteen sthaviras, and the receiving of nectars and purification, as it has been elaborately explained in the scriptures. Learn these scriptures and try to meditate on the meaning as you recite the words.] This condensed means of paying homage and praying to Munindra and the sixteen Sthaviras was put together by Gelong Yeshe Gyaltsen in the blissful small room of the Great Palace, with the thought of how marvellous it would be if Buddha's Doctrine increases and remains for ever and ever. By virtue of this small work, may the Conqueror's Doctrine increase and remain for ever and ever. [NOTE:] (In the beginning, the verse `I prostrate, venerate, and go for refuge...etc.' can be changed to, `I and those who are here prostrate, venerate,...etc.' when the ritual is performed by a group. This is according to the system of Namgyal Monastery and has been authorized by Pandita Yeshe Gyaltsen.) This ritual was translated into English by Getsul Thubten Sherab Sherpa at Nalanda Monastery, France, at the request of the most precious Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, embodiment of compassion.
