have their corresponding projected areas on the foot. Their locations are regularly arranged and therefore easily remembered.
When the feet are put side by side, the reflecting areas of all the organs are arranged as a miniature human body in a sitting posture, with the trunk inclined forward and the legs crossed. The big toe corresponds to the head with its cerebrum, cerebellum and pituitary gland, and the proximal end of the big toe corresponds to the neck. The sense organs are arranged on the other toes. The arches of both feet, when placed side by side, correspond to the spinal column with the thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccygeal segments arranged from the distal end to the proximal end of the arches. The anterior part of sole corresponds to the chest cavity, containing the heart and lungs; the middle part of the sole corresponds to the upper abdomen, including the liver, gallbladder, spleen, stomach, pancreas and kidneys; the posterior part of the sole corresponds to the lower abdomen, including the small intestine, colon, urinary bladder and genital organs; and the shoulder, elbow and knee joints are arranged along the lateral border of the foot from the anterior end to the posterior end, in sequence.
The reflecting areas of organs on the left side of the body are arranged on the left foot, and those on the right side are arranged on the fight foot. Organs in pairs such as kidneys, lungs and ureters have their reflecting areas on both feet; and the organs lying on the body's midline, such as the cerebrum, cerebellum, nose, tonsils, stomach and spinal column have their projecting areas arranged along the medial borders of both feet. The projected areas of the liver, spleen, and ears are arranged along the lateral borders of both feet, but the projected areas of the cerebrum, frontal sinus, trigeminal nerves, eyes and ears are arranged on the contralateral foot, just as their nerves, which originate from both cerebral hemispheres, are mutually crossed in the brain or spinal cord. Therefore, the projected area of the trigeminat nerve on the left foot is used to treat trigeminal neuralgia on the fight of the face, and vice versa.
