The Present Scenario

The working environment has changed from the traditional working

hours to the 24x7, 365 modules over the years with perfection and
Quality in demand. One has to even prove his MIGHT every day to exist
in the position where he or she is! May sound far-fetched but the
observations reveal that it is more so over a better, true explanation to
ultimate? Never ever in the smartness of the office was in demand of
Quality as is it today with ZERO ERROR and JIT (Just in Time) as the
march order for the workers and certainly the time and tide demands it
utmost. The tide ultimately defines the nature of job no wonder, no
matter it is the newspaper headlines or the news corner of the
rediff.com on the net. We are prepared as employees to empower with
Quality Skills each day to perform the better, the best to the task given
to us. The cult of the Office is an everlasting one with new stories,
incidences and scoops at large. ‘It is a term that gets thrown around all the time. As
with any organization, every office has its own particular flavour. The network of people can
often help get your job done, but they can also be a huge distraction. From water cooler gossip,
to trivial power struggles, to torrid love affairs, your HR department has their hands full of
concerns and taking of Quality Matters!
Thinking yourself only to perform in office might roll you back to your
poor quality skills. It needs to be practiced at your visit to Malls, no
wonder at parties, at places of worship and of course at home where
you stand and walk your office at leisure. If we are thinking of orating
ourselves to promote with time and capture promotional skills, we
need to empower ourselves with penetration of artistic attitude of
“Quality never to be a 9 to 5 JOB”. The time demands your excellence
at all times, at all places and at all probabilities with an obvious SIX
SIGMA syndrome of lesser of conformities with every act of operations
and executions...... The Boss has to be right always as he is the Play
Boy for the company! Also with Quality Thinking comes Quality
Improvement and Quality Acting, the new version for KODO, KAIZEN
and KAGNE, no wonder could be coined for perfection. Also at the same
time is the liking for having a co-operation at workplace. It’s much
better to get into co-operation mode rather than competition mode.
However there are others who advocate that if there is healthy
competition, what’s wrong. But I can’t help wondering...can
competition ever be healthy?

Taking Pressure at Home and Office

Office or Home, the work is on and so the demand for Quality can
never be an official routine further. There is certainly an enmity over
the work culture and the “I have done “attribute at times but explore
the remembrance that when you win your enemies, you destroy
the enmity. That way u make a
Difference also. Also when we talk of Virtual Office these days, it
becomes clear to our mind of the laison we need to maintain over the
mails with a BCC or a CC fragrance of sending or receiving the mails
and this is in no way a 9 to 5 operation for the individual. As a common
belief, “The coral reef harnesses the invisible power of the sun and
turns into a resource that gives life to the sea. Your organization’s
culture is also an invisible power- so why not harness it? This is a
certain philosophy which we at times perfectly encapsulate towards
our work culture but it needs an edited definition of making it as a
habit rather than an occasional appearance. What is required is
building a culture of continuous improvement. Here it laminates the
success towards perfection in a particular order of working and framing
policies by the workforce in order of execution and exploration of the
planned activities in the best possible manner where Quality Counts
Without Tears!
What is actively involved is the sense of ownership among the
employees which shall take the QUALITY at home, no wonder for
the work man ship of the office related queries or the application of life
skills as an individual. And as our father of the nation, Gandhi says,
You must become the change you want to see must activate
among the employees to perform and accept praise........The Quality
Guru, Philp Crosby rightly says in one of his books, “People are
conditioned to believe that error is inevitable . . . However, we do not
accept the same standard when it comes to our personal life. If we did,
we would resign ourselves to being shortchanged now and then when
we cash our paychecks. We would expect hospital nurses to drop a
certain percentage of all newborn babies. We would expect to go home
to the wrong house periodically. As individuals we do not tolerate these
things. Thus we have a double standard, one for ourselves, one for the
company”.
The encapsulation of his thoughts also prevails towards Quality of Work
Life in his another book, In Quality Without Tears, Crosby adds new
layers to his original philosophy. Suppose, says Crosby that you
suddenly found a grizzly bear in your back yard: “The answer would
not be to set up an armed camp to protect yourself from the bear. This
is the sort of action that takes place when parts of an organization are
given a shoot-to-kill license. All that results is a lot of yard that can’t be
used and several dead bears.” Corrective actions have to begin by
identifying the source of the bears. The other thought of Crosby is
referenced towards the promotion of the new work order procedures
with the pace of the march of time and tide as “You are going to be
measured anyway by some means, fair or foul. Usually the one doing
the measuring has nothing specific in mind; so he does it by the seat of
his pants. Careers are destroyed in this manner.” It is a true but a
certain encapsulation of conduct and demand by any organisation in
particular.

The Quality Cult of Busy and Being Busy

As a matter of fact, the concerns over being busy over trivial issues
mark the dent to the Quality capsules in practice. What is required is a
balance. No matter your level of priorities, emails and calls, you’re only
MINUTES from finding a balance. A balance between busy, yet relaxed.
A balance between work and home also matters of taste and tide with
the patience of others dependent on your actions at all times no
matter the site is at home, office or any where on the Earth !
